The aim of the Applied Linguistics Research Centre is to conduct research on language, its users and areas of use, and their interaction with the social, cultural and physical environment.

Purpose of the Applied Linguistics Research Centre

  • To promote the scientific study of applied linguistics beyond national and cultural borders
  • To promote and facilitate the exploration of critical ideas that generate mutual discussion in relevant fields
  • To contribute to current studies related to applied linguistics
  • To develop and facilitate new initiatives in pre-existing interactions between education, culture, psychology, communication, computer science, humanities, sociology, semiotics, literature, philosophy and fine arts
  • To create an international academic platform for personal and institutional contact
  • To cooperate with other organizations and institutions with similar goals and values
  • To establish academic cooperation with relevant international centres and departments
  • To increase the quality of language-related studies and practices across the university
  • To provide students with development and research opportunities
  • To organize conferences to present and/or promote new ongoing research in this field
  • To organize a speaking program comprised of university or non-university academics.
  • To publish a bi-annual journal
  • To host visiting professors for joint research or contribution in applied linguistics
  • To organize competitions and award prizes to recognize outstanding work in applied linguistics
