The VI. Euroasia International Architecture, Civil Engineering and Art Schools Festival which was held in TRNC and hosted by the Near East University ended with a closing ceremony. The last of the festival which first started six years ago through the initiatives and efforts of Prof. Ducen Kasseinov, the General Secretary of TURKSOY, and Rector Prof. Amirlan Kussainov Kazakhistan Leader Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering (KazGASA) completed with participation scientists, researchers and students mainly coming from Kazakhistan, Russia, Bulgaria, Holland, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Turkey and Ukraine, in total 15 countries participated in the festival. In line with the main objective of the festival, the jury gathered up to decide on the top projects in five main disciplines (architecture, design, civil engineering, construction material products and production, wood and wood products technology) assessed the projects throughout the day. At the end of the assessment process, the projects were assessed under 13 titles; Urban Planning, Housing and Public Buildings in Architecture, Renovation and Restoration, Landscape Architecture, Architectural Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Analysis and Structures Design, Industrial and Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, construction material products and production, Wood and wood products technology, and the top projects sharing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places were determined. In total, 39 projects deemed worthy to be awarded. Near East University obtained the awards coming 2nd and 3rd Graphic Design field and came 3rd in Landscape Architecture.
VI. International Architecture, Civil Engineering and Graphic Design Project Festival starts at Near East University
VI. International Architecture, Civil Engineering and Graphic Design Project Festival which hosted by the Near East University in Turkish Republic of North Cyprus this year started. The opening ceremony of the Festival through which graduation projects in line with international standards will compete realized with participation of local and foreign scientists, academicians and students at Hall 4 of Grand Library of Near East University. According to a press info released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, the festival throughout which the students from civil engineering, architecture and graphic design departments will compete with their graduation projects. At the end of the Festival, the jury of the Festival will decide on the projects to be awarded and the owners of the winning projects will be awarded. Scientists and academicians specializing on architecture, civil engineering and design, whose majority coming from 15 countries, including Russia, Bulgaria, Holland, United Arab Emirates, Hungary, Turkey and Ukraine, are taking place at the Festival. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: “We are proud to host the festival which will lead to future of the architectural discipline…” Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, Chairman of Board of Trustees of Near East University, delivered the opening speech of the Festival in Hall 4 and in his speech said that the International Festival of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Graphic Design will contribute much to the qualifications of students and shed light on the future of architectural discipline. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel said “The conference held in form of a festival in order to evaluate the projects of the students from faculties of architecture and determine whether they are in line with the international standards will definitely shed light on development of graduation projects in future. The awards that will be given at the end of the conference will promote the competitions amongst the students and enhance them in focusing on their objectives”. Assoc. Prof. Günsel also emphasized that the Near East University gives the utmost importance in line with her wide line of vision and perspective and will continue to support such organizations in order to help and promote our students to gain the identity of a researcher and raise professional awareness. Prof. Amirlan Kussainov, Rector of KazGASA, said in his speech that the Festival hosted by Near East University has created a precious opportunity to bring new projects together. Prof. Ducen Kasseniov, General Secretary of TURKSOY, said in his speech that the Festival would be a new step in establishment of future and building up of peace in future. Yılmaz Batıbey, General Secretary of Turkic World Architects and Engineers Union, said in his speech that they are very proud of becoming a part of such a precious event held by the Near East University in designing the future of the world. Following the opening speeches, memorial plaques and presents were handed in.
International Conference on application of Fuzzy Systems and Soft Computing of which organizing committee chaired by Near East University has begun in Vienna within the scope of Science Direct and Scopus
The International Conference on Application of Fuzzy Systems and Soft Computing, ICAFS-2016, is being held in Vienna between 29-30 August 2016 with participation of over 100 scientist from universities in Japan, the USA, Germany, Russia, Poland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Austria, Azerbaijan, Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, Finland, France, Georgia, Uzbekistan, China, India, Mexico, Latvia, Romania, and TRNC. According to a press statement released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Fahreddin SADIKOĞLU, Vice Rector of NEU and Chairman of Organizing Committee of the ICAFS-2016, pointed out that all the accepted papers would be published in the Elsevier’s Procedia Computer Science Open access Journal indexed in Scopus and Science Direct, a highly recognized platform, where conference papers can be hosted and accessed by millions of researchers. Prof. Dr. SADIKOĞLU added that selected papers would be considered for possible publication in SCI journals such as Information Sciences journal, the Soft Computing Journal, Artificial Intelligence in Medicine journal, and International Journal of Intelligent Automation and Soft Computing. Almost hundred scientists from universities in Asia, Europe and America are participating in ICAFS 2016….. The Conference is being realized with the participation of almost 100 scientists from the universities and associations from 24 different countries situated in Asia, Europe and America continents. Alongside Near East University from TRNC, University of Toronto and University of Alberta from Canada, Georgia State University and University of Texas from the USA, University of Siegen from Germany, TOBB Economics and Technology University from Turkey, BISC-Berkeley Initiative in Soft Computing Association from the USA, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University and Association of Zadeh’s Legacy and Artificial Intelligence from Azerbaijan are taking part in the Organizing Committee of ICAFS 2016. Prof. Dr. SADIKOĞLU: World of science is taking another gigantic step with this international conference…… In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. SADIKOĞLU extended his appreciations to the participants by underlining that the sessions would focus on the application of methods concerning Fuzzy Logic and Soft Computing in earth sciences, Soft Computing in industrial engineering, Decision Theory with Imperfect Information, Neuro-Fuzzy Technology, Soft Computing in finance, business and economics and educational sciences, Soft Computing in medicine and biomedical engineering, Fuzzy and Soft Computing Based Control Systems, Soft Computing for System of Systems Engineering, Granular Computing, Evolutionary Computation and other technologies relevant to the applications of Fuzzy and Soft Computing. Stating that world’s leading scientists were taking part in the Program Committee and Organizing Committee of ICAFS 2016, he drew attention to the crucial role of conference in contributing to the world of science. Following the opening remarks of Prof. Dr. SADIKOĞLU, the participants attended to the sessions to make their presentations.

The 4th International Conference on New Developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering was held at Near East University
The 4th International Conference on New Developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering that organized collaboratively by Near East University and Turkish Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering was held at NEU Atatürk Culture and Congress Center (AKKM) under the auspices and support of Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, NEU Founding Rector and Conference Honorary Chair, and with the contributions of NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, 68 senior administrators and scientists from 35 foreign countries took active part in the Organizing Committee and the International Advisory Board of the conference. Many internationally renowned scientists, scholars, engineers, practitioners and experts from all over the world participated in the 4th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering that was chaired by Near East University Rector Professor Dr. Ümit Hassan. Approximately 500 participants from 50 countries participated in the conference. The two day scheduled conference provided platform for keynote lectures, debates, sessions and presentations conducted by many reputable figures such as Professor Antonio GENS, Vice-President of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering ( ISSMGE) for Europe, Spain, Professor Fatma BALIGH, Vice-President of the ISSMGE for Africa, PhD Thomas L. HOLZER, Research Geologist from USGS Menlo Park Science Center, California-USA, Professor Dong-soo KIM, Vice-President for International affairs of Korean Geotechnical Society and Organizing Committee Chair of the 19th ICSMGE to be held in Seoul-Korea in 2017, Professor Ivan VANICEK, Former Vice-President of the ISSMGE for Europe, Czech Republic, Professor Rolf KATZENBACH from Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, Professor Lyesee LALOUI from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the editor of Energy and the Environment Journal, Switzerland, Professor Baraja M. DAS from Calofornia State University Sacramento, USA, Professor Ergün TOĞROL, Honorary President of TSSMGE, Turkey, Professor Feyza CINICIOĞLU, President of Turkish Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (TSSMGE) and the Chair of Conference Organizing Committee, Prof. Dr. Turan DURGUNOĞLU from ZETAŞ Soil Technologies, Prof. Dr. Mete ERDEMGİL from SMP Engineering, Orhan INANIR from Geogroup, and Dr. Rasin DÜZCEER from Kasktaş. The papers presented at the conference were published as a book of 800 pages. Alongside reputable keynote lecturers, scientists, scholars and practitioners, many academics from Turkish universities and TRNC universities, representatives of NGOs and public institutions participated in the conference. On the third day the participants had ample opportunity for visits to historical sites in Nicosia, Kyrenia and Famagusta and technical excursions to Geçitköy Pond, the reaching point of freshwater from Turkey to North Cyprus through pipeline under sea. As the locomotive of science and innovation in North Cyprus, Near East University feels the pride and honor of hosting such an outstanding international conference and providing platform for many internationally renowned figures to exchange ideas and discuss the new developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. The next International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ICSMGE) will be held in Seoul-Republic of Korea from September 17 to 22, 2017.
