Near East University Faculty of Dentistry graduation ceremony for academic year 2015-2016 was held with broad participation.
Near East University Faculty of Dentistry feels great proud of producing graduates that equipped with broad knowledge, skills and practice required to fulfill their professions thoroughly. The graduates received their diplomas with a glorious ceremony held at AKKM main hall. The graduation ceremony was realized with broad participation of guests and academics including NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, Deputy Rectors Prof. Dr. Fahreddin Sadıkoğlu and Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Mutahhar Ulusoy, chairpersons of departments, teaching staff, students and their parents.
The graduation ceremony began with stand in silence and followed by national anthem. The music recital performed by the teaching staff of Music Teaching Department of Atatürk Faculty of Education received standing ovation.
Following the opening speeches, the diploma ceremony was realized. The graduates were presented their diplomas after swearing the Hippocratic Oath for Dentistry together with the Faculty’s Dean Professor ULUSOY.
Graduates ranking the top were awarded with gold medals
Top ranking graduates were presented their diplomas and decorated with gold medals by NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel.

Near East University Faculty of Dentistry Student Union, Northern Cyprus Association of Dental Students (NCADS) represented the Near East University and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus by attending International Association of Dentistry Students (IADS) MidYear Meeting which was held in Bratislava in Slovakia.
According to the Press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the International Association of Dental Students was established in 1951, to unite the dental students of the world and allow them to exchange knowledge and experiences about dentistry at an international level. It was expressed that the NCADS git together with many dental students at the aforementioned meeting to share developments in the field, including internships and research exchange programs; which will enable students to take part in exchange programs so as to get internship experiences and make observations.
They will be competing to realise the General Meeting and Congress of the IADS in the TRNC…
At the MidYear Meeting of the IADS 2016, NCADS competed with other countries and were chosen among the first three successful teams; which will further compete to hold the IADS 2017 General Meeting and Congress in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). For this, NCADS will be competing with other countries at the World Dentistry Congress which will be held in Poland later in 2016.
Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “We are proud of the NCADS. I would like to wish the best of luck to them in the competition that will take place in Poland!”
Making a statement on the matter, Vice Rector of Near East University, Tamer Şanlıdağ, expressed that they were rather proud of the dentistry students and added that they believed that they not only represented the Near East University at an international platform but also represented the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as a whole. He added that the Northern Cyprus Association of Dental Students (NCADS) was established in 2013, consisting of Near East University Dental Students, and that they were excited of the possibility that 2017 IADS General Meeting and Congress might be held in the TRNC. In this regard, he wished the best of luck to the NCADS in the competition in Poland.
What is NCADS?
The NCADS was established in 2013 and is an association which includes dental students in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as a national and international platform. It was established to; help promote better standards of dental education, enable international interaction with parties in other countries, facilitate international exchange programs to take place, enable students to share and be aware of latest developments in the field, enable dental students in the TRNC communicate with dental students from other cultures and nationalities.
Since its establishment in the year of 2007, Near East University Faculty of Dentistry has been carrying out its functions effectively at all levels and with the responsibility of being the first and only dentistry faculty of Cyprus that has a strategic location in near east geography. With the excitement and honor of producing its 5th term graduates this year, NEU Faculty of Dentistry continues to offer quality education beyond the standards set by national and international bodies.
According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Prof. Dr. M. Mutahhar Ulusoy, Dean of NEU Faculty of Dentistry, delivered information regarding the faculty and expressed his views. “A total of 270 dentists and 20 doctoral students have graduated from our faculty so far. A total of 809 students that composed of 45 students enrolled in orthodontics supportive staff associate degree program, 532 students enrolled in undergraduate programs in Turkish, 188 students enrolled in undergraduate programs in English, and 44 students enrolled in doctoral programs currently receive education at NEU Faculty of Dentistry. Located in the campus, our faculty building houses administrative, educational, and clinical and research units, first diagnostic center that equipped with the latest imaging and monitoring instruments, computer aided 3D modeling lab, sedation unit for problematic patients, clinics offering advanced services for 8 departments and fully equipped operating rooms. Our Faculty with its highly trained staff and high-tech equipped infrastructure and superstructure has already become a dental hub that preferred by patients. Since our faculty is under the coverage of Turkey’s Social Security Institution (SSI), our trainees can conduct more efficient clinical studies in the integrated clinic that has come into service this year in the line with the increasing patient capacity.
NEU Faculty of Dentistry, which is a young, dynamic and new generation faculty, provides high quality pre-clinical education on basic medical and dental sciences in the first three years through learning oriented methods in order to equip students with adequate knowledge and skills required to cope with the most complicated dental cases. In the final two years of undergraduate education, students assist the services in clinics under the supervision of specialist staff.
We offer some revolutionary solutions in restoration of lost natural teeth by fixed and mobile prosthetics according to the highest global standards. Our dental centers have access to their own dental laboratories where all types of fixed and mobile prosthetics applications can be performed. Our computer aided design and production center is in the process of coming into service.
We intend to improve the quality of life for our students and foster them to involve in social activities besides having an extensive training in the field.
Our educational Curricula are constantly revised in compliance with European and international accreditation standards in order to ensure the highest quality education and train highly equipped dentists capable to achieve a cutting edge career over the others in this competitive era where the renewal rate of information is very high.
