Near East University, which has become an important reference point in the field of education in Cyprus and in the world, is a pioneer in championing the country's sports in the international arena and makes its mark in the world with its exemplary breakthroughs in the field of sports. Our university, which has won championships with 1,651 licensed athletes in all branches except football, offers various social, sporting and cultural opportunities with the Olympic swimming pool, tennis courts, football field, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor sports halls, and cultural centres located on the campus.
The Department of Health, Culture and Sports is one of the most active units of the university that organizes sports, social and cultural activities for Near East University students to spend their time outside the curriculum in the best way possible.
Every year on Near East University campus, recreational streetball, football, five-a-side, tennis, cricket, chess, swimming, water ballet, scuba diving, oil wrestling, yoga, Healthy Life Marathon and arm-wrestling tournaments/events are organized for students. Activities where students and lecturers have the opportunity to participate together continue throughout the year.
In addition to sports, the Health, Culture and Sports Department organizes recreational dance learning activities such as Modern Dance, Local Folk Dances and Tango, in which students participate intensively. Students participating in these activities can take part in the Dance Fests held twice a year in the fall and spring terms. Salsa, Hip-Hop, Chacta-Bachata, Latin, Tango and Folk Dances take place in dance festival events in which dance academies participate together with the dance teams of other universities in the TRNC.
Near East University students who are interested in synchronized swimming (water ballet) have the opportunity to join the first and only water ballet team in TRNC and take part in the annual water ballet performances.
Open sea dives are organized on weekends creating the opportunity to obtain a diving certificate (PADI-SMAS) for students who are interested in scuba diving. All Near East University students who cannot swim can attend free swimming courses.
Another opportunity offered to Near East University students is to participate in the TRNC Interuniversity Sports Games organized by the TRNC University Sports Federation with the participation of all universities on the island. In these competitions, Near East University maintains its title of being the university that has won the most championships in the last 13 years.
Near East University students who are performance athletes can join the teams within the body of the Near East University Sports Club, which is under the Department of Health, Culture and Sports.
