World Champion Robots and their AI Coding have all been completely done by Near East University Research Centre

The robotic team of Near East University competed and won a triumph over leading robotic teams from Harvard University from United States of America & Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University, Toyota National College of Technology from Japan, University of British Colombia from Canada and other leading teams from Tehran- Iran, China and Brazil State Universities.

The robotic football team NEUIslanders, which was mechanically and electronically designed and coded 100% at the Near East University 3D Laboratory, became the World Champion at the RoboCup 2018 that was held in Montreal, Canada.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, RoboCup is known as one of the world’s most prestigious robotic football tournament and competing in this tournament, NEUIslanders left 17 teams behind and become the Champion of the RoboCup 2018. Representing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and as the first Turkish team to ever participate in the world robotic football tournament, NEUIslanders from Near East University has won 4 triumphs and 2 draws against the teams it competed against.

NEUIslanders left robotic football teams from Harvard University & Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Carnegie Mellon behind…
This year, the 22nd RoboCup International Competition was held in Montreal, Canada during 16-22 June, 2018 and NEUIslanders competed against the leading robotic football teams of United States of America-Harvard University & Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University; teams from Baden-Württemberg Cooperate State University Germany; Centro Universitario da FEI and Instituto Militar de Engenharia from Brasil; Bordeaux University from France; team from University of British Columbia, Canada; alongside Laval University; Toyota National College of Technology from Japan; Tahran University from Iran; Zheijang University from China, -a total of 17 opponent robotic football teams- and became the Champion of RoboCup 2018 without a single defeat.

They became the Champion in Canada!
Since the date of foundation, NEUIslanders won the right to compete against leading robotic football teams from around the world and has previously competed at 2012 Mexico, 2013 Holland, 2014 Brazil, 2015 China, 2016 Germany and 2017 Japan. Resultantly, they became European 3rd Robotic Football Team in 2016; World 9th in 2017 and now in 2018 World Champion of the Robotic Football Tournament titled as RoboCup.

Robotic Football Team of Near East University, NEUIslanders, won a triumph over “Robojackets”- Georgia Institute of Technology University- from the United States with a score of 1-0. Furthermore, NEUIslanders won a triumph against “Thunderbots” from University of British Columbia, Canada with a score of 2-0. Moreover, a triumph against“Ultron” from University of Laval with a score of 2-0; triumph against “AIS” from Chile with a score of 7-0. In addition to the above, NEUIslanders achieved a draw against Military Engineering Institution University and AMC with a score of 0-0. Thus, the NEUIslanders completed the robotic football tournament with a total of 4 triumphs and 2 draws.

The Robots of NEUIslanders were developed and the artificial intelligence codes were carried out at the Near East University Research Laboratory…
It was pointed out that NEUIslanders, the robotic football team consisted of 8 robots which were mechanically and electronically developed and designed completely at the Near East University Research Laboratory. The engineers at the NEU Research Laboratory handmade each robot with special technology and are controlled with a three dimensional coordination and communication system. Prior to RoboCup 2018, the NEU electric electronic engineers and computer engineers jointly worked at the Near East University Research Centre and re-wrote the artificial intelligence, making the robotic football team more offensive, making it the World Champion of the RoboCup 2018 Championship.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel: “May our world championship be a gift to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus!”
Making a statement regarding the matter, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel, stated that they were rather proud of the Robotic Football Team of Near East University Robotics Laboratory due to their achievement as the Champion of the RoboCup 2018 which was held in Montreal, Canada.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Günsel further asserted that this achievement was a clear indication of the vision of Near East University aiming to be among the third generation universities. He congratulated the NEU Robotics Team as they had become the Champion of RoboCup 2018 without a single defeat. He added that they were quite happy to present this championship to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. He emphasised that they perceived this achievement as an example that indicates that we have brought our vision of becoming among the third generation universities to life. He assured that they will be continuing to work hard and taking leap forward into the future. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel stressed that rather than the scores achieved against the other robotic football teams competed with, this championship was an indication that the Near East University has reached a technological level which is internationally recognised. In other words, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Günsel stated that becoming the World Champion of RoboCup 2018 showed that the NEU has reached a level to compete with technologically leading countries around the world. He ended his words by assuring that they will be continuing to work in this field devotedly as they had become more excited than ever as this had provided the opportunity to show what a Turkish Cypriot can accomplish when and if provided the necessary requirements.
