Prof. Dr. Zihni TURKAN
Dean of the Faculty of Architecture

He was born in 1958 in Paphos / Cyprus. He completed his primary education in Cyprus, secondary education in Turkey at Ankara Bahçelievler High School. In 1981, he graduated with the degree of Architect M.A. from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Karadeniz Technical University. He continued professionally as a freelance architect, developing architectural projects and construction site applications. Starting in the 1992-93 academic year, he took his place as a lecturer among the founding staff of the Faculty of Architecture at the Near East University. He completed his postgraduate degree (Ph.D.) at the University of Ankara in 2000. In addition to his applied architectural designs and academic works and he has also been an active member and president in professional organizations such as the Board of the Chamber of Architects and the Union of the Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects, the High Committee of Antiques and Monuments, Commission of Traffic Services and Transport of T.R.N.C. and Council of Construction of T.R.NC. He has taken part in the coordination bicommunal projects and various professional representations. Dr. Turkan has also been a jury member in architectural project competitions, as well as a member of organization committee and coordinator for symposium and congresses. He is still teaching, as an Assoc. Prof. Dr. at the Departments of Architecture and Interior Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, Near East University. Dr. Turkan is married to Memnune Turkan (Arch. M.A.)
