NEUIslanders, robotic soccer team of the Near East University, is waving the flag of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus proudly in Japan

NEUIslanders, the robotic soccer team of the Near East University, has gone to Japan to participate in RoboCup (Robot Soccer World Cup) that is an annual robotic competition organized by FIFA.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, the team consisting of Nurullah AKKAYA, Berk YILMAZ, Ersin AYTAÇ, Görkem SAY and Mustafa ARICI left the island to participate in RoboCup to be held on 25 - 31 July 2017 in Nagoya, Japan.

After taking the pitch on 23 July for the final training, on Wednesday and Thursday NEUIslanders will take the pitch to face its opponents in Group B. In accordance with the ranking in the group, the qualified teams will compete in the quarter final matches on Friday.

On Wednesday, NEUIslanders will face first Parsian, the Iranian champion soccer team, and then ULtron, the robotic soccer team of Laval University-Canada. On Thursday, NEUIslanders will take the pitch again to face first with ZJUNlict, RoboCup champion team of Chinese Zhejiang University, and then with MCT Susano Logics from Japan National Technology University.

Team Captain Ersin AYTAÇ, made a brief assessment regarding the RoboCup 2017 before leaving the island and said that they were proud of participating in Robot Soccer World Cup (RoboCup) for the sixth time on behalf of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. He also added that they would return to the island with a successful result.
