Near East University Hospital Hosts “Retrospective Exhibition of Turkish Cypriot Painters”

The "Retrospective Exhibition of Turkish Cypriot Painters" organized by Dr. Suat Günsel, Founding Rector of NEU, and Near East Bank, including works of I and II generation Turkish Cypriot painters opened by the former president of the TRNC Parliament, Sibel Siber, at the exhibition hall of the Near East University Hospital.

According to the information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, the opening ceremony of the exhibition where the the art lovers met at the Near East University Hospital Exhibition Hall, attended by the former President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Assembly, Dr. Sibel Siber, Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, Near East Bank General Manager Selami Kacamak, Near East Bank Deputy General Manager, Enver Haskasap, vice rectors, deans, academicians, painters, art lovers and Near East University Hospital managers and staff members.

The exhibition, which included painters were born between 1890 and 1950 and opened to the interest of art lovers, works of 18 artists from Ist and IInd generation are exhibited in different themes such as nature, naturmort, portrait, and nude.

At the opening of the exhibition, the art director and curator of the exhibition Mustafa Hastürk and former President of the Assembly Sibel Siber made speeches.

Dr. Mustafa Hastürk: "This exhibition is a milestone in terms of country art ..."
Exhibition's art director and curator Mustafa Hastürk said in his speech that throughout the 80-year history of the Turkish Cypriot painting has created significant accumulation and development from the beginning of the I. and II. generations, and the exhibition, which consisted of works of painters from various generations, was an important milestone in terms of the art of the country.

Dr. Mustafa Hastürk in the continuation of his speech, thanked to the Founder of the Near East University for his contributions to the exhibition. Hastürk stated that Günsel's initiatives led to organization of the exhibition and thanked the organizers who contributed to the exhibition which included a significant part of the Turkish Cypriot painting art.

Hastürk; "I deliver my deepest appreciation to our Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel who did his best to support and contribute to art. I would like to thank to Vice Rector Şenol Beşktaş, the President of the Parliament, who contributed the exhibiton with paintings in their collections, Ülgiye Ratip, Mehmet Parlan, and all those who contributed to the exhibition.

Former President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Parliament, Dr. Sibel Siber, expressed her satisfaction for opening the exhibition exhibiting the works of Ist and IInd generation Turkish Cypriot painters, and congratulated the Near East University for its support and importance given to the art.

Emphasizing that one of the spiritual values that make society a society is art, Sibel Siber stated that it is necessary to appreciate the artists and their works of art should be moved to the present from past and to the future from the present day.

Noting that the works in the exhibition desire to be presented not only to the Turkish Cypriot community but also to the world, Siber mentioned that they had started to work for the exhibition of art works in the virtual environment during her Presidency of the Assembly.

Sibel Siber, said "With the study started to record the art works, 800 works of art launched in the digital records. More than 230 of our country's artists have shared their works and their information. Private collections, handwritings, ethnographic works will be transferred to this virtual venue as well. Accessibility to works of art is of a promotional value. With the development of the digital environment, we have reached the power to demolish many embargoes and will surely take bigger steps in this regard. "

At the end of his words, Sibel Siber expressed his wishes for the hope that the Turkish Cypriot Painters Retrospective Exhibition will be the hope of the future.

After the speeches, the former chairman of the parliament, Dr. Sibel Siber and Founding Rector of Near East University, Suat İ. Günsel cut opened the exhibition and a plaque of thanks was presented to Sibel Siber by Founding Rector Günsel.

Following the presentation of the plaque, the Founding Rector of the Near East University, Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, the former president of the parliament, Sibel Siber, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East University Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, General Manager of Near East Bank Selami Kacamak and Near East Bank Deputy General Manager, Enver Haskasap, cut the ribbon of the exhibition and opened the exhibition. The event ended with a visit to the exhibition and a reception.
