As part of the continuous Computer Engineering Department activities, a "Cisco IT Essentials Virtual Desktop PC & Laptop" 'Workshop’ was held at faculty of engineering laboratories
Lecturer of Computer Engineering Department Ramiz SALAMA "Cisco IT Essentials Virtual Desktop PC & Laptop" enables the students learn the steps required to install specific components of the laptop.
HOW IT WORKS: Modes
There are three main Modes: learn, Test, and Explore.
Learn Mode: walks you through the removal and installation of select components
Test mode: allows you to remove and install select components without any assistance
Explore Mode: gives you information about any features and components of the laptop.
HOW IT WORKS: Layers of Access
The Learn Mode is made up of 4 layers: Underside Layer, Top and Side Layer, Docking Station Layer and External Cables Layer. The Explore Mode gives you four internal views of the desktop. Test Mode gives you all the components to install, but they are not separated into layers
In Learn Mode, you see information about what components make up each layer. By clicking on ' Show Instructions' button, you will see a step- by -step list of instructions that will help you to install each component. When you have installed each component within a layer, you will be notified that the installation of that layer is complete. You may the select the nest layer in the Main Navigation menu.
Test Mode, provides all the components you will need to build your virtual desktop, but you will not see any layer or component information, nor you will be able to select the ' Show Instructions' button, you can switch to Learn or Explore Mode at any time, if you need more information.
In Explore Mode, you can roll over the components to get more information. In some cases, you can click on the component to see a larger,360 degree view
HOW IT WORK: Installing Components
The Antistatic Mat is located at the bottom of the main window. It contains all the parts you will need to assemble your virtual desktop.
Use the left and right navigation arrows to scroll through the components on the anti-static mat
HOW IT WORK: Aligning Components
Some components need to be properly aligned before you can install them. For these compounds there is an alignment tool that pops up automatically.
Click the Clockwise and Counterclockwise buttons to turn the component until you believe it is properly aligned. The Install button looks like an arrow pointing down.
Click it to install the component. If it isn't properly aligned, the Install button will show a red X. If the component is properly aligned clicking the install button will begin the installation animation of that component.
When a component has been properly installed, it will be grayed out on the anti-static mat.
HOW IT WORK: Exploring Components
In the Explore Mode(and in the learn Mode), many components give a Learn More option. When you click this option, you see the component in separate window with slider tool below it. In the upper right corner of this window there may be several boxes that present different views of the component.
The slider tool has a needle that you can control with your mouse. Move it back and fourth to see a 360 degree view of the component.
