Yeşilyurt Special Education Centre Students enjoyed a day at the Near East University Accessible Cinema and Activity Centre

Founded under the body of Near East University Faculty of Communication, Accessible Cinema and Activity Centre hosted the students from Yeşilyurt Special Education Centre.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, realised free of charge due to the cooperation between NEU Faculty of Communication and Telsim Telecommunication Company, Yeşilyurt Special Education Centre students were shown the animation film titled as UP; a film which received the best animation Oscar award in 2009.

It was stated that during the screening which was especially held for the Yeşilyurt Special Education Centre students, Vice Deans of the Faculty Assoc Prof Dr Fevzi Kasap and Assist Prof Dr. Nuran Öze, alongside Academicians of the NEU Faculty of Communication, Member of Lefkoşa Türk Belediyesi Council (Nicosia Municipality Council), Accessible Desk Authority Çelen Çağansoy accompanied the students.

İneci: “It is a great opportunity for cinema to be made accessible…”
Making a statement regarding the film screening event, Teacher in Charge of the Yeşilyurt Special Education Centre Esma İneci, expressed that they had found out about the existence of the Accessible Cinema and Activity Centre with the help of Member of Lefkoşa Türk Belediyesi Council Çelen Çağansoy and emphasised that it was a great opportunity for such a centre to be made accessible for the ones in need. In this regard, she expressed gratitude to Near East University Authorities for offering such opportunity. She ended her words by emphasising that the initiatives of the Near East University were always exemplary to everyone.

The Centre is open to all individuals with special needs…
Vice Dean of Faculty of Communication of Near East University Assist Prof Dr Nuran Öze expressed that the NEU Accessible Cinema and Activity Centre was open to all individuals with special needs and that it was used not only for film screening but also for events such as holding meetings and workshops.

In addition to the above, Assist Prof Dr Nuran Öze stated that the centre was designed for special events and film screening with contemporary infrastructure and internet connection, a seating area for 20 people, and a front section suitable for 5 wheel chaired people. She added that the centre was small but well equipped convenient for special needs individuals to use, free of charge, for film screening and other foundational and special needs education services.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kasap: We are quite pleased to observe the happiness of our students...
Vice Dean of Faculty of Communication of Near East University and Head of Department of Radio, TV and Cinema Assoc Prof Dr. Fevzi Kasap indicated that they were quite pleased to see the students’ happiness by being at the centre and pointed out that he wished to see the centre to be actively used by people with special needs. Furthermore, he stated that they were in close contact with the academic staff so that the centre can be actively used. He added that they all wanted to host people especially from institutions and associations related to the field of special needs education.

The IT Infrastructure draws attention…
The IT infrastructure of the NEU Accessible Cinema and Activity Centre draws attention, including a narration track for the blind, cafeteria, Braille menu, parking space for the disabled, and other conveniences.
