With participation of the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, the retrospective painting exhibition of the painter Feryal Sükan was opened at the Arts Center of Near East University where four exhibitions can be displayed simultaneously

Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman attended the opening of the retrospective painting exhibition of the painter Feryal Sükan that realized at the Arts Center of Near East University, which provides services within the scope of Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts on Near East University Campus. Having the capacity to open four exhibitions at the same time, Arts Center of Near East University aims to be a center of culture which promotes our country's artistic creativity to wider populations by making artistic production process a part of the daily life.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the Arts Center of Near East University, which is located in Atatürk Culture and Congress Center (AKKM), opened its doors for the first retrospective exhibition. The opening of this retrospective exhibition, which comprises a distinguished collection of paintings created by the painter Feryal Sükan in almost twenty-five years, was realized by the participation of the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan Günsel, Vice Rectors, faculty deans, faculty members, artists, art-lovers and guests.

The retrospective exhibition, which consists of a collection depicting 93 distinguished artworks created by Feryal Sükan from 1993 to 2018, is open to the public from 10:00 to 17:00 from October 16 to October 28, 2018.

The Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, Painter Feryal Sükan and Associate Professor Erdal Aygenç, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, delivered speeches at the opening of the exhibition.

We will view figures full of emotion...
Delivering the first speech at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Associate Professor Erdal Aygenç stated that art-makers were not expected to say much as their artworks talked louder than remarks. Underlining NEU's commitment to bringing vividness and color into social life through arts, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aygenç said that Near East University with its broad possibilities had brought a new dimension to the arts to constitute a new instrumental for new beginnings.

Underlining that the Painter Feryal Sükan was well-known with her figurative paintings, Associate Professor Aygenç stated that the painter also painted autobiographical images adding that Sükan particularly used women painting figures and these figures were sometimes alone but full of emotions.

Artistic, vital and emotional adventure is depicted...
Underlining that she wanted to present her own experiences and interest through art, the Painter Feryal Sükan stated that her exhibition featured a collection of her distinguished paintings. "With my paintings from 1993 till now, I have aimed to present an artistic, vital and emotional adventure. Now, with this exhibition, I am experiencing the happiness of sharing this process with the art enthusiasts".

"I would like to take this opportunity and extend my thanks to those, who contributed to me to bring this exhibition into life and those, who provided opportunity to exhibit my paintings in such a beautiful venue. Besides, I would like to extend my appreciations mainly to Suat Günsel in recognition of his contributions to arts and artists, and thanks to Near East University for creating opportunity and spaces for artists by establishing exhibition halls and museum of arts. I hope that these supports will continue” said she.

Underlining that Near East University had come up with great breakthroughs for the wellbeing of the society, the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman voiced his happiness of attending the opening of the Arts Center of Near East University, which is a subservient of Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts that established to promote the artworks of the talented artists of our country and Turkic world.

“Production is important no matter what field it is related. The importance of artistic production is much greater, because art knows no boundaries. Especially Our artists engaged in plastic arts have been realizing great achievements at international platforms through art that knows no boundaries” noted he.

Stating that he had been one of the closest followers and fans of Feryal Sükan since 1993, Erhürman expressed that he had had the chance to see her paintings separately since 1993. "I am experiencing the joy of having the opportunity to see her paintings all together at the retrospective exhibition to be realized today" said he.

Extending his appreciations to those who provided opportunity to view the paintings reflecting the "adventure" of a significant artist in such a nice venue, the Prime Minister Erhürman underlined the important role of production for a society in maintaining its existence. "As long as you produce, our people will continue to exist. We will continue to produce much more and much better quality because producing means existing."
