Near East University Hospital Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş stated that the growth of tonsil and adenoid that causes serious disturbances in a significant portion of kindergarten and elementary school children in recent years negatively affects school success including growth and development.

Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş; “Untreated tonsil and adenoid problems affect school success negatively, as well as causing growth problems.”
In the recent years, approximately 25 percent of kindergarten and primary school-age children and half of the children with allergies are have been diagnosed with the main symptoms of the discomfort, snoring like adults while sleeping at night due to inability to breathe comfortably, stop breathing in sleep in advanced cases (apnea), not being able to breathe easily during daytime breathing, and so on. Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş stated that children with tonsil and enlarged adenoid have an appetite problem, take a serious effort for breathing during sleep, which also affects growth and development. Noting that all this affects the child's school success negatively, Prof. Dr. Kazıkdaş said that if left untreated, dental and orthodontic problems may be encountered in the following years.

Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş; “The new treatment tendency in tonsil and adenoid growth is to take out only the excess part that prevents breathing.”
Reminding that one of the methods used in the treatment of this ailment for many years is the removal of tonsil and adenoid, Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş stated that the tonsils are now reduced in size and not completely removed with a different method that has been applied more and more frequently in recent years. Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş continued as follows regarding the method applied; “In this method, we open the airway for the patient to breathe easily by reshaping the parts of the tonsil tissue that prevent breathing. The remaining tonsil tissue continues to protect the body as part of the immune system."

Expressing that this method has very important advantages compared to the removal of tonsils completely, Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş stated that the postoperative pain of the patients is very low compared to normal tonsil surgery, that they can be discharged from the hospital on the same day, and the time to start eating normally is much shorter, and that children start to normal food within 3 to 4 days.

Prof. Dr. Kazıkdaş said "The most important benefit of the operation is that complication rates are much lower than normal tonsil surgery."
Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş said that the most frightening complication of tonsil surgeries performed with the old method is bleeding that occurs after the operation. Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş stated that bleeding, which can be seen at a rate of 3-4%, may require the child to be hospitalized again and even to be taken into surgery.

Saying “The complication rates are extremely low in surgeries where the tonsils are partially reduced, and there is almost no risk of bleeding since cold knives are not used.”, Prof. Dr. K. Çağdaş Kazıkdaş also stated that tonsil shrinkage surgeries performed with the radiofrequency or bipolar method are extremely safe compared to the complete removal of the tonsil.
