Turkish Cypriot People preferred Dr. Suat Gunsel Mosque’s 62 Dome and 6 Minaret to be Stainless Steel Chrome plated with Gold Color

As a result of the survey, which was initiated to determine the materials to be used in the Dome and Minarets of Dr. Suat Günsel Mosque, of which the foundations were laid in 2013 and scheduled to be completed by 15 November 2020, it was preferred that 62 dome and 6 minarets to be made of gold-colored stainless steel chrome plating.

According to a press info released by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, the results of the survey carried out through an online system aiming to find out the public opinion on the materials to be used to decorate the 62 dome and 6 minarets of the Dr. Suat Günsel Mosque which was entirely designed by the Near East University architects by integrating the Near East philosophy with the Ottoman architecture, was reported to be completed.

A total of 2215 people participated in the web-based study. Of the 2215 people who completed the survey, 1344 (61%) preferred gold plated stainless steel chrome plated and 871 (39%) people preferred lead plated. As a result of this result, a majority of the Turkish Cypriot people who participated in the survey, have decided that the 62 domes and 6 minarets of Dr. Suat Günsel Mosque to be decorated with gold-colored stainless steel chrome plating. The choice of gold-colored stainless steel chrome plating, which is an environmentally friendly material, was duly admitted by the authorities of the Near East University, which follows an environment-friendly policy since the very beginning of its establishment.

The Dr. Suat Günsel Mosque, becoming the mosque with the highest capacity in the island of Cyprus where 10,000 people can pray at the same time, has the largest main dome with a diameter of 36,80 meters in height and a diameter of 23,80 meters in width, which is surrounded by 61 domes in smaller diameters. There are 27 domes in the mosque section, 9 semi-domes and 26 domes in the Cloister section. The mosque has a total of 6 minarets; 4 minarets with three balconies are 76,20 meters high and 2 minarets with two balconies are 56,45 meters high.
