The Symposium on National Understandings from History to Present

Near East University is going to organize a symposium themed on "National Understandings from History to Present". The symposium will be held on April 18-19, 2019 and provide an international scientific platform for participants to discuss the concepts of "National formations and Nation" with an interdisciplinary and multidimensional approach.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that scientist from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Turkey, who have significant knowledge regarding the issue, as well as faculty members from foreign countries and very important scholars would contribute to the symposium.

The symposium will provide platform to address the historical, cultural, political, legal, philosophical, linguistic and geographical frameworks and contents of the topics related to the analysis of the mutual effects of the nationalist ideology and national structure as well as the new meanings of national characteristic and national identity that emerged in the line with developments and changes.

It is a historical fact that the geography where the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Turkey are located in has a great geopolitical importance. This geography has been the scene of struggles of many civilizations throughout history. Nationalism and disputes on national identity emerged in this geography in our era will be emphasized as the vital point and heart of the symposium.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the most outstanding example of the struggle for existence and freedom in this geography. For this reason, Near East University rolled up her sleeves to organize an international symposium titled "National Understandings from History to Present" to provide a scientific platform in order to discuss the cause and effect relation of the historical events considered at national dimension. The symposium, which will be held at Near East University with international participation on 18-19 April, 2019, will also provide an inter-disciplinary platform for scientists, field-experts and academics to discuss and share ideas covering all aspects of the issue. Based on the cause-effect relation of the historical events bearing national characteristics, the meaning of the word 'national' and how this word was used in some fields as well as its effect on historical events concerning both the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Turkey will also be addressed at the symposium.

Besides, the evolution of national characteristics and national identity within historical process, the honing of mutual effects between national ideas and national structure will be

discussed at the symposium. The symposium is of great importance for providing an inter-disciplinary scientific platform to carry out fruitful discussions and evaluate not only the national formations emerged within the historical process and their reflections extending to present but also various effects of the historical mission of Turkey.

Articles in compliance with the main theme "National Understandings from History to Present" will be considered eligible for presentation at the symposium. The participants will be able to make presentations on the following topics:

The presentation medium of the symposium is Turkish and English. No participation fee is requested for participating in the symposium.
