The Sports Policy, Physical Education and the Quality of Education at Sports Schools were laid on the table

Near East University Faculty of Sports Sciences organized a seminar themed "Quality Physical Education and Sports Policy".

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the Faculty of Sports Sciences held a seminar and provided a scientific platform to discuss and exchange ideas on sports policy and quality physical education at sports schools. It was stated that the seminar, which was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazım Burgul, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, was realized with the participation of NEU vice Rector Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ, Salih Sarpten, Director of the Educational Office of the Ministry of National Education, Professor Mehtap Tiryakioğlu, Dean of NEU Faculty of Sports Sciences, METU Faculty Member Professor Levent Ince, department chairs, faculty members and many physical education teachers working in schools across TRNC.

The opening speech of the event was delivered by Professor Mehtap Tiryakioğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences. In her opening remarks, she welcomed the participants and pointed out that it was the third seminar that they had organized in the current academic year.

METU Faculty Member Professor Levent Ince, Asst. Prof. Dr. Osman Emiroğlu, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, and Associate Professor Hakan Atamtürk, Head of the Department of Recreation, participated in the event as speakers.

Delivering information about the education, training and management styles and principles regarding physical education, health and sports programs, the seminar moderator Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazım Burgul addressed the problems encountered while implementing teaching methods, and proposed solutions to overcome these problems. The first panelist Professor Levent Ince underlined the crucial role of teaching styles, updated programs and teacher's competencies and quality teaching in affecting the learning performance of students. The second panelist Associate Professor Hakan Atamtürk addressed the great importance of a well-designed and up-to-date physical education, health and sports curriculum in raising well-equipped individuals capable to address the needs of the sector. In this regard, he underlined that the needs of individuals and society, and programs focused on fitness, vitality and learner-centered approaches that adopted by contemporary educational bodies had great importance.

The final panelist Asst. Prof. Dr. Osman Emiroğlu touched upon the importance of closely following up the changing physical education and sport teaching approaches and implementing student-centered and reconstructing learning approaches instead of traditional and stereotyped educational approaches. In his final remarks, Emiroğlu criticized the course structure that predominantly based on drill commands such as “close-order”, "ten-hut" and "at ease" in which students are not involved in the education process.

At the end of the seminar, NEU vice Rector Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ presented thanks certificates to the speakers in recognition of their contributions to the seminar.
