Near East University hosted the Second International Biomedical Engineering Congress 2018 (IBMEC-2018).

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, IBMEC 2018 was realized with the attendance of IBMEC 2018 Presidents Assoc. Prof. Dr. Terin Adalı, Prof. Dr. Osman Eroğul, and Prof. Dr. Munis Dündar at NEU Irfan Günsel Congress Center on 24-27 May 2018. It was highlighted that 63 poster and 60 oral presentations related to scientific studies carried out at 45 universities, 12 research centers and 4 hospitals were presented at panels and sessions held throughout the congress.

Future of Biomedical Engineering through a Scientific Perspective
The IBMEC-2018, focusing on the theme of “DISCUSSING THE FUTURE OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING” provided platform for academics, researchers and scientists from Turkey and all over the world to discuss the most challenging biomedical engineering issues through plenary conferences, oral and poster presentations.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özsöz, the Dean of Faculty of Engineering of Near East University, welcomed the participants and delivered brief information regarding the scope and significance of the conference. Then, Professor Nedime Serakıncı, Head of Center of Excellence and Head of Genetics and Cancer Diagnosis- Research Center, and Professor Murat Kocaoğlu, Deputy Rector of Near East University, delivered a speech respectively.

Following the opening remarks, Professor Nesrin Hasırcı made the opening presentation of the congress titled "Artificial Organs: Past-Now-Future". Then, IBMEC 2018 congress presidents, Professor Osman Eroğul and Professor Münis Dündar made their presentations respectively on “Medical Applications in Cern" and "Recent Developments and Opportunities in Biotechnology".

Firsts were realized through special sessions...
IBMEC 2018 provided an outstanding platform for the participants to realize firsts by discussing and brainstorming throughout three special sessions comprising workshops on “Biomedical Applications with 3D-Printer Technology", "Biomedical Science and Engineering Applications in Veterinary Medicine" and "Accreditation and Education Standards in Biomedical Engineering and Science".

The future of biomedical engineering was discussed with oral and poster presentations on the most challenging biomedical engineering issues such as Cellular and Tissue Engineering, Artificial Organs, Biosensors, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Systems, Biomedical Signal Processing, Biomedical Imaging and Image Processing, Biomedical Instrumentation, Biomaterials, Bioinformatics, Genetic Engineering and Recent Advancements in Biomedical Engineering.

Oral and Poster Presentations that Deemed Worthy have been awarded...
The first prize for oral presentation was awarded to the presentation on "Nuclear Deformation on Micro-designed Substrate: Measuring Instrument for Nuclear Deformation in Cancerous Cells", the co-study carried out by scholars including Menekşe Ermiş, Derya Akkaynak, Pu Chew, Utkan Demirci and Vasıf Hasırcı from METU-Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Center of Excellence (BIOMATEN), Princeton University and Stanford University.

The poster presentation on "Effect of 4- (3,4-Dihydroxy Benzyloxy Methyl) Phenyl-B-D-Glucopyranoside on Liver Regeneration", the co-study carried out by scholars including Tülin Fırat, Gizem Söyler, Fatma Töre, Mustafa Şit, Aysu Kıyan, Ufuk Özgen, Aysel Kükner from Abant İzzet Baysal Üniversity, Near East University and Biruni University, was awarded with the first prize.

The Articles presented at the Congress will be published in the Special Issue of the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules...
In her explanation, IBMEC 2018 President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Terin Adalı stated that Near East University attached great importance on scientific research studies and this has been emphasized during the congress. "Providing contribution to the participants to present their studies has been a source of pride for us as the organizing and scientific committees of IBMEC - 2018" said she.

Underlining that they hoped the articles, which would be evaluated by independent referees and then published as the special issue of the SCI International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, would provide contribution to science, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adalı stated that they would be greatly proud of hosting the scholars and scientists involved in biomedical science and engineering at the third International Biomedical Congress to be held in 2020.
