The Meeting on “Molecular Methods and Current Approaches in Microbiology” was held at Near East University

Having been organized collaboratively by Near East University Experimental Health Sciences Research Center (EHSRC) and Turkish Microbiology Society (TMS), the Meeting on Molecular Methods and Current Approaches in Microbiology was held at the Near East University Irfan Günsel Congress Center.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the 'Molecular Methods and Current Approaches in Microbiology' meeting, which was organized as the 8th event of the periodic EHSRC conferences, provided a scientific platform for conferences on Molecular Epidemiology For Preventing the Hospital Outbreaks, Current Status of Malaria, Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) and Vaccine Studies.

Professor Barış Otlu, Chairman of the Turkish Microbiology Society and Lecturer at the Medical Microbiology Department of the Faculty of Medicine of Inönü University, delivered a lecture on "Molecular Epidemiology for Preventing the Hospital Outbreaks" and shared the new effective approaches in preventing the hospital outbreaks. During his lecture, he addressed the importance of surveillance studies and molecular epidemiology, in particular molecular analysis as the gold standard, as well as the newly developed sequence analysis techniques in detecting and monitoring of antibiotic resistance genes.

Exploration and Development of Herbal Based Drugs that can be used for the Prevention of Malaria was discussed...
Professor Ahmet Özbilğin, lecturer at the Department of Parasitology of the Faculty of Medicine of Celal Bayar University, delivered a lecture on 'Current Status of Malaria’. He addressed Plasmodium species that responsible for the malaria and provided information about the tests used for case detection and diagnosis in Turkey. He underlined the drug resistance that recently emerged in parasites. He also highlighted the importance of discovering and developing of herbal based drugs with anti-parasitic activity that can be used in the prevention of malaria.

Studies for Developing Vaccine against Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) were addressed...
Professor Aykut Özdarendeli, lecturer at the Department of Medical Microbiology of the Faculty of Medicine of Erciyes University and one of the founders of Vaccine Research, Development and Application Center of Erciyes University, delivered a lecture and addressed the studies that they had been carrying out for developing vaccine against Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), which is a viral hemorrhagic fever disease transmitted by tick-bites. Indicating that the Phase-1 app on a group of volunteers was completed successfully, Professor Özdarendeli provided the participants with information about the findings and the road map to be followed for Phase-2 and Phase-3 apps.

At the end of the 8th DESAM periodic conference series, which focused on important topics and which attracted great interest, NEU vice Rector and EHSRC (DESAM) Director Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ presented plaque of appreciation to the participants.
