Groundbreaking ceremony and the opening of rectorate and faculty buildings of the University of Kyrenia were realized by the Prime Minister Ömer Kalyoncu.
Prime Minister Ömer Kalyoncu, third President Dr. Derviş Eroğlu, Minister of National Education Kemal Dürüst, Minister of Tourism Faiz Sucuoğlu, Minister of Economy Sunat Atun, Crimean Tatar Assembly Speaker Mustafa Abdülcemil Kırımoğlu, YODAK Chairman Hüseyin Gökçekuş, NEU Founding Rector Suat İ. Günsel, University of Kyrenia Founding Rector Cemre Günsel Haskasap, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman İrfan S. Günsel, University of Kyrenia Board of Trustees Chairman İlkay Salihoğlu, academics, students and citizens participated in the groundbreaking ceremony that took place in Karakum region of Kyrenia.
The Hospital of University of Kyrenia will be equipped with Robot da Vinci ( Robotic Surgery System)
Within the innovative approach of the university, the Hospital of University of Kyrenia with 150 bed capacity will be build in accordance with the accreditation criteria of the most demanding international accreditation bodies and will be equipped with the latest high-tech systems and devices including Robot da Vinci Surgical System which is the latest and sophisticated robotic technology designed to expand the surgeon’s capabilities and offer a state-of-the-art minimally invasive option for major surgeries. The Hospital of the University of Kyrenia will be a new generation hospital capable to respond all needs of modern medicine. The hospital will house emergency department, policlinics, 5 operating rooms, intensive care units, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy centers equipped with the latest and highest technologies to ensure the most accurate and fastest medical scanning, diagnosis and treatment, Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation and fully equipped imaging center. Along with Robot da Vinci system, PACS (picture archiving and communication system) which is the latest, the most advanced and the most comprehensive Web-based medical imaging system will also be in service at the Hospital of University of Kyrenia.
“Maritime Studies, Aviation and Space Sciences and aircrafts”
Delivering the opening remarks, University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu extended his appreciations to everyone participated in the groundbreaking and the opening ceremonies. "We first created the infrastructure and superstructure of the faculties within two years. Now, we are realizing their opening ceremony. Faculty of Maritime Studies, the Faculty of Aviation & Space Sciences along with affiliated departments will provide quality and distinguished education. We are also laying the foundation of a complex composed of four blocks. Three blocks will be the hospital and one block will be the Faculty of Medicine.
Target September 2016
Underlining that the Hospital of University of Kyrenia was scheduled to be completed by September 2016, Professor Salihoğlu stated that the hospital would be equipped with the latest technology to provide the people of Kyrenia with all currently available quality healthcare services.
Highlighting that the University of Kyrenia is in compliance with international norms, Professor Doctor Salihoğlu indicated that the Faculty of Maritime would comply with the ultimate level of the maritime training criteria set by national and international maritime bodies. "Within this context, we are exerting intensive effort and we will cultivate highly trained and qualified seafarers including engineers and intermediate staff capable to address the needs of the maritime sector"
3 Aircrafts
Indicating that they would also be in compliance with international criteria in providing services in the field of aeronautics and space sciences, Professor Salihoğlu spoke of. "We have included 3 aircrafts in the training fleet and reinforced our flight technical infrastructure. We aim to cultivate highly trained aviators capable to address the ever growing requirements of the aviation industry".
GÜNSEL
Beginning his speech by commemorating his recently passed away grandfather, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel celebrated the Republic Day of the people.
Voicing the pride of the investments made by his parents in education, Günsel extended his thanks to everyone attended the groundbreaking and opening ceremonies.
Highlighting that they had laid the foundation of facilities that were symbols of present and future, he noted that the University of Kyrenia had arisen from NEU's vast experiences on education.
Expressing that they felt the honor of laying the foundations of the Hospital of Kyrenia and the Faculty of Medicine, Günsel emphasized the commitment to serving our people in the field of education and health. He noted the buildings of new facilities would be completed within a year.
"We aim to provide quality, safe and affordable health services at the hospital which would be equipped with the latest cutting-edge technology. We will come up with more technological investments to provide TRNC people with quality education and health services. Innovation and research will be the mission of the university.
We have been exerting effort for 37 years to serve our people in various fields of social life, especially in education. To meet all the needs of our people has been the primary goal of the University of Kyrenia, its sister university, Near East University, and our other facilities serving our people and it will continue to be so. By responding the health requirements of the people of Kyrenia, the Hospital of University of Kyrenia will undertaken a very important task and will become a symbol of Kyrenia in national and international arena” said he.
Underlining the commitment to providing the hospital not only with the current technology but also with the next generation technology, Günsel wished success.
HASKASAP
Mrs. Cemre Günsel Haskasap, Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia, starting her speech by commemorating her grandfather whom she lost recently, said in her speech "On the foundation day of our republic the University of Kyrenia has gained her new campus and we are hereby together, we are united. The Günsel Family is in their 37th year in education. Our family adopted the mission to take deep roots on this land. We know that taking solid roots is only possible through construction and uniting with the rest of the world. Our major objective is not only to be admired with what we have already done and will be done in future, but also to be preffered. We have taken our place in Kyrenia both in education and health through a different architectural design. Our amblem is the flag we have inherited."
GÖKÇEKUŞ
Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş, President of YÖDAK, commemorated İrfan Günsel, the deceased grandfather of Günsel Family, and told about the first investments of the family in education sector. Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş pointed out that the experience, deep knowledge and infrastructure of Near East University have been transferred to this university, and expressed his gratefulness for investments in both education and health sector, and congratulated the family.
Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş also said that despite the sanctions imposed to our country, the universities deserve to be congratulated beyond everything as they have brought into internationally recognized investments, and the universities are following the right way and policy with YÖDAK.
DÜRÜST
Kemal Dürüst, Minister of National Education, said that he is honoured to participate at such an important event of opening the new campus of a university and groundbreaking ceremony of new hospital and Faculty of Medicine on the 32. anniversary of foundation of TRNC. Minister Dürüst congratulated the Günsel Family for their investments in education and health.
Dürüst also stated that investments are being carried out throughout the country in all sectors and congratulated everybody who contribute to the country through investments.
EROĞLU
Dr. Derviş Eroğlu, the 3rd President of TRNC, pointed out that the Günsel Family has been making investments to our country since 1988 and attracting students from international platforms to our country through these investments, and congratulated the Family for the education opportunities they offer to thousands of students from the rest of the world.
Eroğlu said that the country needs such successful investors and the country can develop only through such investments. Eroğlu stating that the graduates from faculties of these university
will contribute to both their countries and to our country, wished the new investment to be beneficial for both our country and for all those who will benefit from it.
KALYONCU
Prime Minister Ömer Kalyoncu said "We have come to honour the opening of house of science and the thurification ceremony is very important for me as it is a part our culture since centuries, and this is an attraction for every islander."
Prime Minister Kalyoncu said that two important and meaningful ceremonies have taken place on that day, one of the was the celebrations for the Foundation Day, and the other was for the groundbreaking and opening ceremonies of a new university. Kalyoncu also said that with such investments, the ultimate objective is to develop the infrastructure of universities and ensure that they have reached the international standarts.
Prime Minister Kalyoncu said that despite the fact that the University of Kyrenia is a new university, it was established on a great infrastructure and deep experience, and they would continue to support the new universities.
Kalyoncu also pointed out that they are expecting the universities to develop in accordance with international requirements and standarts, and attract students from the rest of the world, and create new employment opportunities accordingly.
Prime Minister Kalyoncu emphasized that the universities have to act in such a way to contribute to improve the dignity of Turkish Cypriot people wished all the best for future.
