At the “Symposium on Ionizing Radiation and Its Effects on Human Health” held under the chairmanship of Near East University Center of Excellence – Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials Research Center, Near East University Faculty of Medicine Radiation Oncology Head of Department Prof. Dr. Meltem Nalça Andrieu, the effects of ionizing radiation on human health, which are exposed in imaging studies applied especially for health, were discussed. Many scientists from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Turkey made presentations at the symposium, which was held in three sessions in order to prevent information pollution on the subject and to provide accurate information by experts.
In the first session of the symposium, Ankara University Faculty of Engineering Physics Engineering Retired Lecturer Prof. Dr. Doğan Bor made his presentation on “The Effect of Low-Level Ionizing Radiation on Health”, Near East University Faculty of Medicine Radiation Oncology Head of Department Prof. Dr. Meltem Nalça Andrieu, on the other hand, discussed the topic of “Radiobiological Interaction of Human and Tumor Cells and Ionizing Radiation”. Yasemin Küçükçiloğlu, a Specialist Doctor from Near East University Hospital, gave important information about radiation protection.
At the second session chaired by Near East University, Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine Prof. Dr. Nuri Arslan, Specialist Dr. Sinem Şığıt İkiz from Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital discussed the subject of “Hospital Use of Ionizing Radiation in Radiology”. One of the faculty members of the Near East University Nuclear Medicine Department, Specialist Dr. Hülya Efetürk focused on “Hospital Use of Ionizing Radiation in Nuclear Medicine”. The third presentation of the second session was made by Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology faculty member Prof. Dr. Yavuz Anacak. Anacak made his made his presentation on the subject “The Use of Ionizing Radiation in Radiation Oncology”.

In the last session of the symposium, Near East University Dean of Veterinary Faculty Prof. Dr. Deniz Seyrek İntaş made a presentation on “The Use of Radiation in Veterinary Medicine” and Prof. Dr. Dilek Arsoy evaluated the veterinary aspect of the subject with her presentations on “Veterinary Public Health and Nuclear Technology”. The symposium was concluded with the presentation of Near East University Faculty of Dentistry faculty member Assist. Prof. Dr. Gürkan Ünsal who made a presentation on “The Use of Ionizing Radiation in Dentistry”.
