The Conference titled as Gestalt’s the Empty Chair Psychoanalysis attracted great attention

The conference titled as Gestalt’s Empty Chair Psychoanalysis, which was held by the Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education Department of Psychological Counselling and Guidance attracted great attraction.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Specialists Assist Prof. Dr. Sertan Kağan and Eşmen Tatlıcalı attended the conference as spokespersons.

It was stated that the conference was realised with the attendance of academic members and students of the Department of Psychological Counselling, and that general concepts of Gestalt’s Theory and Psychoanalysis were defined and the relationship between the ‘councillor-consultant’ was scrutinized. Furthermore, similarities and differences between Gestalt’s Theory and Psychoanalysis Theory were discussed; Assist. Prof. Dr. Sertan Kağan shared experiences on Gestalt’s Theory whereas Specialist Eşmen Tatlıcalı shared applications on psychoanalysis theory. Finally, Specialist Eşmen Tatlıcalı exemplified the application of both theories on a case.

It was pointed out that the conference was rather beneficial for students as they were given the opportunity to learnt that Gestalt’s Theory has a wholistic approach; on the other hand, Psychoanalysis Theory was a method based on art, philosophy, treatment and research which involves the ‘human’. Head of Department of Psychological Counselling and Guidance, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yağmur Çerkez, emphasised that conferences like the current one completed played a significant role in the students’ educational lives and were invaluable as they equipped students with the necessary knowledge and awareness required in their field of study.
