Studies on the Medicinal Plants Growing in Northern Cyprus Have Been Presented at the 5th International Mediterranean Symposium on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MESMAP 2019)

Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli, the Rector of Özay Günsel Child University and Lecturer at the Department of Pharmacognosy  of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Near-East University, participated in the 5th International Mediterranean Symposium on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MESMAP-5) and the 5th International Symposium on Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences (ISPBS-5) Joint Meeting as an invitee speaker and represented Near East University with her study on "Some investigations on the medicinal plants growing in Northern Cyprus".

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that "The Fifth International Mediterranean Symposium on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MESMAP 2019)" provided a scientific platform for scholars conducting studies on biological medicine raw materials to share their research results. A wide range of research results concerning the identification of the active ingredients of plants, extraction, isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from plant extracts, biological activities of individual photochemical and plant extracts, and the processes from plants to drug were presented throughout parallel panels and sessions. Professor Filiz Meriçli participated in the “Fifth International Mediterranean Symposium on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants" and the joint meeting the “International Symposium on Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences (ISPBS-5)" as an invitee speaker and presented her study on "Some investigations on the medicinal plants growing in Northern Cyprus".

Drawing attention to growing interest in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) throughout the world, Prof. Dr. Meriçli underlined the importance of the evaluation of medicinal plants grown in Cyprus in pharmacy and transforming them into high value-added pharmaceutical products.

Professor Meriçli also made a poster presentation on "Research Results Concerning Anti-Cancer Effect of the Coriander", a co-study conductedby Prof. Dr. Meriçli with Associate Professor Eda Biçer and Dr. Selin Işık.

Investigations on Medicinal Plants Indigenous to Cyprus Attracted Attention...
Besides the scientists and scholars from all Mediterranean countries, the scientists and scholars from Azerbaijan, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, South Africa, India, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Macedonia, Pakistan, Romania, Serbia and Thailand also participated in the event with a wide range of presentations regarding the results of their investigations on medicinal and aromatic plants. The Joint Meeting "International Symposium on Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences" also provided a scientific platform to discuss and share ideas on pharmaceutical and biomedical issues. The results of the investigations on medicinal plants belonging to Cyprus flora attracted great interest of the attending body.

Scientists and Scholars Have Been Invited to Attend the 6th World Congress on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants to Be Held in North Cyprus...

Professor Filiz Meriçli ended her presentation by inviting the scientists and scholars to the 6th World Congress on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (WOCMAP VI), which will be held in North Cyprus on November 13-17, 2019 and chaired by Professor Hüsnü Can Başer, the Director of the Health Sciences Graduate School of Near East University.

Joint Studies on Plants Endemic to North Cyprus Flora and Azerbaijan Flora Will Be Carried Out...
Professor Filiz Meriçli also came together with Professor Tevfik Mehmedov during the event and concluded to come together in Nicosia and Baku and hold meeting on carrying out joint studies on plants endemic to North Cyprus flora and Azerbaijan flora. Besides, Professor Meriçli attended the presentations of the young researchers and shared her experiences regarding the importance of ethical values and the challenges encountered during the scientific investigations.
