Research Centre for Applied Linguistics (RCAL) held a seminar in Blue Hall on “Heteronormativity in English as a Foreign Language Classrooms”.

According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Dr. Dimitris Evripidou as the spokesperson of the seminar, gave a seminar themed as “Heteronormativity in English as a Foreign Language Classrooms”. It was pointed out that the seminar had begun with providing a definition of heteronormativity, and the generally accepted perspective, how there is no acceptance for differences and therefore how this perspective is reflected into the classrooms. Furthermore, it was emphasised that language learning activities and lesson plans based around heteronormativity caused foreign language learners to hide their true identities and also caused students to have difficulties in foreign language learning.
