New Publication from Near East University Faculty Members; “Traditional Games and Acquired Socio-Cultural Values…”

Near East University Faculty Members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yeniasır and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burak Gökbulut's “Socio-Cultural Values Gained to Preschool Children Through Traditional Games” was published in the Journal For Educators, Teachers and Trainers" which is scanned in international indexes.

According to the information provided by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, as a result of the studies carried out by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yeniasır and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burak Gökbulut it was found out that in childhood ages many important values such as respect, help, kindness, kindness, courage, love, protection, honesty, forgiveness, respect for the environment, patience and obeying to the social rules are gained or reinforced through traditional games.

In the study, which aims to determine the values gained by preschool children through traditional children's games, it was stated that the results of the research were quite interesting. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeniasır and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökbulut found out in their interviews that spending time with computer, tablet, phone games have become very popular and due to spending a lot of time with these virtual games, children could not allocate enough time to traditional games.

Children spend time with virtual games more than traditional games…
The researchers pointing out that traditional games play an important role both in transferring the national culture to future generations and in bringing certain values, which are a necessity of social life, to children at very young ages, and stated that the games are considered by the educators as one the most effective tools in keeping up with the social life.

Emphasizing that especially with the development of technology, the virtual games that push the individual to loneliness have gained an important place in the lives of children and the traditional games that teach the necessary rules of social life from an early age have been forgotten gradually, the researchers stated that families and teachers should assume important duties at this point.

Prof. Dr. Gökbulut "Parents and teachers should be careful to make children spend less time with computer, tablet, phone games and direct children to traditional games with more educational features. In this way, they will prepare the necessary infrastructure for their children to live a happy life in the future and prevent cultural destruction.”
