NEU Faculty of Health Sciences leaves its mark on international studies. It goes from success to success

Near East University Faculty of Health Sciences cultivates highly qualified health professionals in compliance with national and international standards. It actualizes international studies and rides high.

Faculty of Health Sciences with its fully equipped infrastructure and highly trained academic staff is a dynamic, new generation faculty. Established under the umbrella of Near East University, which is the leading gear of higher education in TRNC, the Faculty of Health Sciences offers high quality education in compliance with criteria and standards set by national and international bodies. Alongside quality education, the faculty provides scientific and technological research opportunities and shares the generated data with all associated bodies with an innovative approach. Faculty of Health Sciences has undertaken it as its primary mission to educate self confident, respectful, critical thinking, tolerant, competent, socially and ethically sensitive and first caliber healthcare professionals that equipped with solid qualifications and a strong commitment to the ideals of health profession.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Sevinç Yücecan, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences, delivered a speech regarding the faculty and their objectives. “The primary objective of our faculty is to ensure all contemporary educational opportunities required to cultivate highly trained and skilled healthcare professionals, who are loyal to universal, occupational and ethical values and devoted to use information for benefit of mankind. The Faculty of Health Sciences was established in the year of 2007. The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Department of Nursing were our first two departments in that year. In Academic Year 2011-2012, the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and the Department of Management of Health Institutions came into service. In Academic Year 2013-2014, the Department of Nursing began to offer educational curricula both in Turkish and English dependent on students’ choice. In Academic Year 2014-2015, the Faculty of Health Sciences opened eight new departments consisting of the Department of Audiology, Department of Child Development, Department of Emergency and Disaster Management, Department of Gerontology, Department of Midwifery, Department of Occupational Health and Safety, Department of Occupational Therapy, and the Department of Speech and Language Therapy. The faculty currently houses 12 departments. Since its establishment, the Faculty of Health Sciences has actualized many accomplishments in a short time and it goes from success to success. Today, the Faculty of Health Sciences is the fifth most populated faculty of the Near East University. Within fundamental objectives of the faculty, our students along with our highly qualified academic staff have carried out more than a hundred scientific research studies. So far, in all steps that we have taken, our main effort is to cultivate highly trained health personnel, who are equipped with comprehensive professional knowledge and skills and capable to address the needs of the sector.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Department of Nursing and the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, which are the first of their kinds in our country, have already produced their first graduates. The Department of Management of Health Institutions will produce its first graduates within this academic year. Our students, who graduated from these departments, currently work as dietitians, nurses and physiotherapists in outpatient and inpatient services of private or public health centers and hospitals in Turkey and TRNC; particularly in Near East University Hospital in TRNC. The success of our graduates is very pleasing and a source of pride.

Besides, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics offers master degree programs on Food and Nutrition Sciences and Medical Nutrition Therapy and doctorate programs on Nutrition and Dietetics. The Department of Nursing offers master degree programs on Internal Medicine Nursing, Surgical Nursing, Pediatrics Nursing and Public Health Nursing, and doctorate degree program on Child Health and Diseases Nursing. Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Master's Program has been included in the curriculum this year” said she.
