It was revealed that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Office of Culture had organised the 8th Young Artists Competition and as a result of the evaluations of the jury, which included İnci KANSU, Emel SAMİOĞLU and Güner PİR, 68 pieces of 25 participants were found appropriate to exhibit. It was also pointed out that for the first time, a digital print had been awarded due to the contemporary visions of the jury; emphasising that the use of digital technologies were of same significance as using traditional methods in arts. This approach was expressed to be a first in the TRNC and it was well regarded.

According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, five awards were given at the competition; four of which were: Success Award- Raif KIZIL’s “İçimdeki Çığlık-I” (the scream inside of me); Success Award- Mehmet SARİLER’s “Horoz Dövüşü-III”(cock fight-III); Honourable Mention- Tamer EKENDAL, “I”; and Jury Special Award- Rahme MANASTIRLI, “Göç-IV” (migration-IV).

Other than the pieces which received awards, 41 pieces of the NEU Faculty of Fine Arts and Design were found to be worthy to exhibit. The pieces of the following students and graduates of the Faculty were exhibited as a result of the competition: Bekir RUSO, Deren KALFAOĞLU, Dicle ÖZLÜSES, Fatma N. ÖZOĞUL, Hakan RÜŞLÜ, Hascan İLERİ, Kemal BORAK, Kemal B. CAYMAZ, Necla Ecem ÖZOĞUL, and Neriman ŞABAN.
