Near East University Was Represented at the GlobELT and GlobETS 2019 Conferences…

The GlobELT conference (the 5th International Conference on Teaching and Learning English as an Additional Language) , which brought together researchers, practitioners, and educators involved in English Language Teaching, English Language and Literature, American Culture and Literature and Linguistics from all around the world, and the joint conference GlobETS 2019 (the  2nd International Conference on Education, Technology and Science), which provided platform for researchers, practitioners, educators, policy makers, and related parties in the field of education to share their experiences, knowledge and new ideas, were held at Merit Park Hotel in Kyrenia-Northern Cyprus. The GlobELT and GlobETS 2019 conferences that chaired by Professor İsmail Hakkı Mirici, the Dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education of Near East University, were realized with the participation of Meral Akıncı, the spouse of TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that GlobELT ((the 5th International Conference on Teaching and Learning English as an Additional Language) and GlobETS (the 2nd International Conference on Education, Technology and Science) brought together researchers, practitioners, educators, policy makers and field experts from all around the world to share their studies, experiences and exchange ideas. The faculty members of Atatürk Faculty of Education attended the conference as invitee speakers. Throughout the panels and sessions, participants from 33 different countries presented 94 articles and found opportunity to share their research findings. Professor Ismail Hakkı Mirici, the Dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education of Near East University, chaired the GlobELT 2019 Conference and delivered the opening remarks of the conference.

Meral Akıncı: "The Reflections of Technology on Education Should Be Examined Thoroughly..."
In her opening remarks, Meral Akıncı, the spouse of TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı, addressed the advancements in technology, science and the theory and practices in education and drew attention to the crucial role of cross-disciplinary studies in promoting collaborative excellence between academics and professionals.

. Indicating that technology had been constantly evolving to meet the demands of the modern world, Meral Akıncı highlighted that modern life had not experienced so rapid technological changes ever before. She added that the reflection of these technological changes on education should be examined thoroughly. Highlighting that technology and science were two integrals that affected and directed each other; Meral Akıncı stated that technology was a part of the culture like religion, art, literature and morality. Underlining that education was the phenomenon capable to turn hitches into public benefit, Meral Akıncı noted that teachers for all different grade levels should develop skills, concepts and understanding among other skills to integrate technology in their lessons to enhance learning as well as to make learning more effective since their contributions to the development of the society was of great importance.

The Project Conducted for Pre-service Teachers to Improve Their Teaching Skills Was Explained...
Within the scope of the conference, Associate Professor Çise Çavuşoğlu, the Chairperson of Department of English Language Teaching of Near East University, delivered a speech on "Theory into Practice, Practice into Insight: A Transformative Experience" at the opening plenary.

During her speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çavuşoğlu addressed the studies carried out to improve the inner vision and skills of the pre-service teachers. She also gave coverage to the information regarding the project on "Building Bridges: Teaching English to Different Groups" that carried out in collaboration with Near East University Applied Linguistic Research Center (ALRC). Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çise Çavuşoğlu emphasized that the project did not only provide prospective teachers with the opportunity to teach in real classes before graduation, but also emerged as a service to a society that strengthens university-society relations. Explaining how the project, which had been going on for three years, helped to improve the teaching skills of the prospective teachers, Çavuşoğlu noted that they had redesigned the programs for teaching by replacing the professional apps relevant to the improvement of skills and insight in the center of the internship programs. She highlighted that the redesigning of the programs had provided unique transformational contributions to both teachers 'and teacher trainers' experiences.

Projects Regarding Accessible Information and Accessible Society Were Addressed...
Professor Zehra Altınay, the Co-chair of Near East University Societal Research and Development Center and the Head of the Department of Computer and Technology of Atatürk Faculty of Education, made a presentation on "Research and projects on disability: The role of technology for social welfare and sustainability".

Underlining the significant role of scientific and solution-oriented projects that carried out by the center since 2013 in ensuring accessible information, accessible society and educational value, Professor Altınay drew attention to the necessity of institutional collaborations for the sustainability of such projects. Presenting project samples on accessible information, safe school settings, conscious parents, unhindered women and happy tomorrows, Professor Zehra Altınay underlined that the center had provided scientific contribution to all organizations and institutions on the basis of cooperation for women, children and the persons with disabilities. Underlining that the evolving technology and innovations were an integral part the process, she noted that social solution-oriented studies that carried out especially for the persons with disabilities were ongoing.
