Near East University was represented at the 6th Geotechnical Symposium

Near East University participated in the symposium with 4 presentations. NEU Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Cavit Atalar, who took part in the Symposium Organizing Committee, chaired the second session of the symposium.

Planned by the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers & Architects (UCTEA) and executed by Adana branch of Chamber of Civil Engineers, Çukurova University, Adana Metropolitan Municipality and Association of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, the 6th Geotechnical Symposium was held at Çukurova University in Adana. Prof. Dr. Cavit Atalar, Director of Near East University Center of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and Acting Chairman of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, Dr. Anoosheh Iravanian lecturer at Civil Engineering Department, and Hilmi Dindar, lecturer at the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering and member of Earthquake and Soil Research and Evaluation Center, represented Near East University at the 6th Geotechnical Symposium.

According to the press release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office, the opening ceremony of the congress that organized biennially was realized with the participation of CHP Adana MP Zülfikar İnönü Tümer, Adana Metropolitan Mayor Hüseyin Sözlü, Kanuni University Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Serindağ, Çukurova University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Fenercioğlu, Nevzat Ersan, Chairman of Board of Directors of UCTEA Chamber of Civil Engineers, Hasan Emir Kavi, Secretary of Adana Provincial Coordination Committee, Nazım Biçer, Head of Adana Branch of Chamber of Civil Engineers, chairpersons of the chambers affiliated with UCTEA, students, geotechnical engineers, academics, researchers and the implementing agencies that involved in the sector.

The two-day symposium provided tremendous opportunity to the participants from both academia and industry to exchange knowledge and experience regarding the latest developments and techniques in geotechnical engineering as well as to discuss issues focused on the geotechnical problems and solution methods. The symposium offered 21 sessions comprising 11 invited theme lectures, 121 presentations and a panel. Near East University participated in the symposium with 4 presentations, three of which were written by Prof. Dr. Cavit Atalar who chaired the second session at the symposium. Dr. Anoosheh and Hilmi Dindar took part at the symposium as the author of one each presentation.
