Head of Institute of Social Sciences of Near East University, Director of Department of Informatics Management Research Centre, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sağsan, and Academic Member of Department of Marketing Dr. Karen Howells made a presentation at the 16th International Conference on Intellectual Capital, Knowledge Management and Organisational Learning (ICICKM 2019), which was hosted by Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, more than 80 participants from 15 different countries attended the conference and academic member Dr. Karen Howells made a presentation titled as “Using Smart Technologies in Sustainable Entrepreneurship for Island Tourism”.

On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sağsan, who chaired the special session titled as “Management of Information and Innovation in Smart Technologies”, made a presentation which he cooperatively prepared with the Research Assistant Sıla Gürler titled as “Universities as Smart Organizations and Green Innovation Strategy: A Theoretical Framework for Northern Cyprus”.


Information, Technology and Change were at the core of discussions
In the special session, there were four presentations from South Africa, Russia, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Australia and the process of change and renewal, where knowledge and innovation are realized through the use of smart technologies, were discussed multidimensionally.

Prof. Dr. Sağsan made the presentation titled as “Universities as Smart Organizations and Green Innovation Strategy: A Theoretical Framework for Northern Cyprus” drew attention to the issue of green renewal strategy, which is a new strategic environmental innovation.

Shared TRNC’s Tourism Map
Academic Member of Department of Marketing Dr. Karen Howells made a presentation titled as “Using Smart Technologies in Sustainable Entrepreneurship for Island Tourism” and by showing the circulation of island tourism on a map, shared tips for more entrepreneurs to invest in tourism on the island. Furthermore, Dr. Howells explained how to use a sustainable entrepreneur profile in smart technologies, especially for tourism on the island. Also, by giving statistics and examples, Dr. Howells introduced the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, as it is not recognized internationally.

Introducing the Scientific Capacity to the World in the Global Platform is quite significant
Head of Institute of Social Sciences of Near East University Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sağsan emphasised that information is now more important than ever and for this reason, it is important to produce, change and use information, therefore manage it carefully. Moreover, the he stated that the information presented at conferences was very significant. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Sağsan stressed that it is also important in terms of both the University and the promotion of our country, to share information by participating in international events; and creating the opportunity to scan conference information on Web of Science database. He proudly stated that the information prepared by the researchers of the Near East University, which produces publications in different research fields, is among the prestigious sources.
