Since the date of foundation and progressing in the light of conscious mind and science, Near East University has been recognised as a “3rd Generation University Model” and recognised internationally; making the Near East University one of the leading higher institutions in its region. Currently, the Near East University is making another leap forward since with the accreditation of Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination (YÖDAK) is opening a Department of Insurance and Actuarial Sciences.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Sciences will be opened as part of the NEU Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and is to initiate recruiting Cypriot undergraduate students in the Spring Term of the Academic Year of 2018-2019.

Through qualified vocational training, experts and intermediate manpower will be raised for the field of insurance…
Day by day, in a world that is globalising and where competition is rising, the need for qualified people with analytical thinking skills and ethical values increasing. It was expressed that this was the reason why the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Sciences was being brought to life; aiming to raise experts in the insurance sector. Such that experts who have the theoretical and applied knowledge and skills relevant to the sector of insurance.

Furthermore, at the Department, legal and academic knowledge which of concern of everyone in the field of social insurance will be taught and graduates who have the ability to create business models, based on customer behaviour and segmentation; and graduates equipped with up-to-date information will be trained.

The students of the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Sciences will be educated by academic members who expertise in private sector and who have theoretical information to offer. Internship and employment opportunities will be provided to Near East Hayat which is on the way of becoming a leading company in the life and health insurance market by bringing a new understanding to the increasing insurance business and operation in the world. The students will also be able to identify the deficiencies of the sector; by recognizing the sector before graduation. Using their knowledge in the sector they will also be able to establish good rapport with individuals from the sector.

It was pointed out that graduates from the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Sciences will have the opportunity to be employed as experts in insurance agencies, banks and insurance companies, companies and institutions such as Broker Companies, Financial Institutions, Life Insurance Companies, Health Insurance Companies, Credit Institutions, Reinsurance Company, Under secretariat of Treasury, Expert and Consultant Companies, Insurance Expertise, Law Offices; alongside the opportunity to employed in Near East Hayat.

The Future of Insurance is Bright…
Dean of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Şerife Eyüpoğlu, made a statement on the matter and emphasised that due to prolongation of human life expectation, positive impacts in the health sector and related sectors caused this profession to be one of the prominent occupations of the future.

Additionally, Prof. Dr. Eyüpoğlu, stated that according to research, the insurance sector in the world will grow by 20% by 2020 and that resultantly, this will increase employment requirements of the sector. Finally, Prof. Dr. Eyüpoğlu stated that young people who are making considerations of career opportunities should definitely contemplate working in this field.
