Face-to-face training at the Near East University for the fall semester of 2020-2021 started with the opening ceremony held today. At the opening ceremony of the academic year, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel and Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan and Acting Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ made important comments about the new academic year and the future of TRNC higher education.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: "Turkey is the only bridge connecting the Northern Cyprus and Turkish Cypriots to the world."
Near East University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, in his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2020-2021 fall term, emphasized the outstanding effort and success achieved in making TRNC both "Safe Island" and "Student Friendly Island". Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said "With the contributions and support of Turkey and our projects conducted by our qualified academic staff in line with the vision of our university, our research, publications and our R & D activities are carried out further and to higher levels every day. In the process of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the whole world, we stood by our state with our engineers, scientists, healthcare professionals, research laboratories, hospitals, innovation center and institutes in fighting with the epidemic. ”

Stating that they provide unconditional support to their students as a university that attaches importance to student-focused education and student clubs, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ stated that the international achievements of Near East University students made them proud. Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “With the membership of Near East University's Pharmacy, Medicine, Dental and Veterinary Medicine Student Associations to International Student Federations, and the Erasmus Plus Program initiated by our University, our students and academicians have gained the right to participate in internship and research exchange programs all over the world. Near East University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, emphasizing the close relationship between Turkey and the TRNC, said "Every obstacle we encountered in this way has been overcome with the support of the Republic of Turkey's authorities, and the fact that Turkey is the only bridge connecting the TRNC and Turkish Cypriots to the world has emerged once again". Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ stated that they will ensure that 2020-2021 Fall Semester is maintained on a safe campus for all students, faculties, and staff. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ concluded his speech saying "On this occasion, I wish the new term to be healthy, peaceful and productive for our students, academicians and administrative staff."

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan, on the other hand, starting his speech saying; "If we pronounced a first sentence that started with the phrase, "The start of education at the Near East University of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for the year 2020-2021...", however we complete this sentence at this very moment, this means that we are aware of a great fact in our minds and hearts.", continued his speech with the emphasis he placed on Turkey.

Prof. Dr. Umit Hassan, "This fact, has been turned into an arrow of our state and country as a result of the great progress exerted to us by the Historical Bow of the Republic of Turkey, our Turkey. This Arrow has created our kinetic energy, the highest kinetic energy. This energy and the material and spiritual opportunities as well as the support that was provided by the Council of Higher Education of the Republic of Turkey, made the combination of the Historical Bow and Arrow possible to hit the Bull's Eye in Cyprus. Indeed, when we talk about culture, we understand a shining development from the 'Umran' theory, which was first described in scientific terms. "Our self, created by our history and our human characteristics, has reached today's knowledge and technical equipment at the international level, so we have reached all the factors of contemporary dynamism."

Prof. Dr.Ümit Hassan in his speech, said, “The science and education level of Near East University has far exceeded the ordinary expectations expected from an ordinary higher education. Our university's pioneering identity in every field has integrated a dynamic institutionalization that affects, staying far away from being affected, and the leadership of our Founding Rector Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel lasted for more than forty years integrated a dynamic institutionalization with our country. The aforementioned leadership shows all the dimensions of the 2020 YKS results of our Near East University's first and highest level of existence and success in every sense. However, although this matter is very important, it is only an indicator of trust to use at the highest international level. Starting from the Board of Trustees of the Near East University, there will be a good-right-beautiful synthesis emerging out of the scientific identity and learning success of our esteemed students, which will continue to increase every year, which is one of the common values of our esteemed academic staff. As those who know how to turn what looks like Evil into Good, we have shown how the problems caused by this pandemic can be overcome by organizing, health protection and scientific-technical solutions. We said we are pioneers. This undoubted pioneering has been a real momentum of dynamic development, encompassing the competent training of the graduate, exceeding the superior level of undergraduate education in every sense ”.

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Umit Hassan commented on the future of TRNS: "The Republic of Turkey is the state power that we receive support, and this is a historical fact. It will introduce the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as an important element of the international acts, and will answer those who insist on ignoring the TRNC by closing their eyes. We exist with our unmatched campus with our permanent gigantic art institutions, very important developments in numerical and content in scientific publications, multi-dimensional opportunities in terms of health, and faculties and colleges covering every field of activity in contemporary life. When we look at the numbers, we are the first in all respects, but the being behind it is in our own tissue, mind and heart. The Bow, our Turkey, is the bow of hearts and minds. We became the Arrow. In line with the target of the Bow, we call out to all our students together with our teachers. Let us have a lesson with you or be together with our superior technical and technological equipment, we embrace the spiritual arrow of the future and send it to the target this year."

Speaking at the opening of the 2020-2021 fall term, Near East University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Irfan Suat Günsel, emphasizing Turkey's role in the development of higher education in our country, said "Our country has turned into a higher education center in the blue homeland Mediterranean with the support and great contributions of our motherland Turkey". Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, stating that this situation should not be regarded solely on the basis of its contribution and mobility to the TRNC economy and also recalling that over 10 thousand new students preferred receiving training in the TRNC for the 2020-2021 academic year, said "Every year thousands of students from different countries, particularly from Turkey, are coming to the TRNC for higher education. When they graduate after completing their education in our country, they return to their country as the voice of our country, our culture and our society that spread all over the world ”.

Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said that universities defined as the TRNC's window opening to the world with the diplomas that are accredited by many international institutions and valid all over the world, and the projects they have implemented, will shape the future of TRNC. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, "The power of TRNC in higher education will pave the way for it to have a say in shaping the future. The contribution of Turkey, including the supports to develop higher education in the TRNC, will continue to increase in our region, and we see this as one of the most important factors that will shape the future."

Reminding that they are the most preferred university of the TRNC this year as in previous years, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “As Near East University, we continue to work resolutely in order not to disappoint the trust placed in us. I think that our projects that we have implemented in 2020 have demonstrated this effort in the best way." Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said that they continue to develop projects that prioritize public health and aim to alleviate the burden of our state. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said the projects of this period, “As a result of R&D studies carried out by our engineers and scientists in different branches, we started to produce imported surgical masks, face shields and disinfectants in our country. We aimed to contribute to the increase in respiratory device capacity in our country with the respirator we developed. In order to alleviate the burden on the health system, we have started to provide free services, especially emergency and oncological examinations, at our fully equipped university hospitals”. Near East University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel also added; "In the 2020-2021 academic year, we started face-to-face training by taking all our precautions to become a" healthy campus "for our students and employees. On the other hand, we are completely ready for distance education with our technological infrastructure. By using both face-to-face and distance education methods, our students will not experience any academic loss in a healthy and safe manner. On this occasion, I hope that the 2020-2021 academic year will be full of health and success for our students, academic and administrative staff, and all the Near East Family ”.
