Near East University Master’s Programme on Political Sciences receives Accreditation by YÖDAK

The Master’s programme on Political Sciences, which is to be offered by NEU Institute of Social Sciences, received accreditation by the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Board (YÖDAK) of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and is to commence in the new academic year.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Near East University has internalised a goal which prioritises scientific research and academic studies; and is determined to educate individuals who have specialised in their fields. With this purpose, the Near East University Institute of Social Sciences has completed all the necessary requirements for a master’s programme on political sciences and has received the accreditation of YÖDAK to commence the programme in this academic year.

Prof. Dr. Musatafa Sağsan: “A Master’s Programme on Political Sciences has become a necessity!”
Making a statement regarding the matter, Head of Institute of Social Sciences of Near East University Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sağsan stated that the initiation of a master’s programme on political sciences had become a necessity. Furthermore, he emphasised that education and scientific research were inseparable components of university life and that each component completed the other. This being the case, he stressed that in time, initiating a master’s programme on political sciences became a necessity.

Dean of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Şerife Z. Eyüpoğlu also expressed her thoughts on the matter and stated that the undergraduate programme on political sciences was being run for more than ten years now; and that the presence of a variety of competent academic members in the field of political sciences inspired the initiation of the master’s programme on political sciences.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Köprülü: “We are determined to carry out scientific, theoretical and multi-dimensional research in the field of political sciences!”
Head of Department of Political Sciences of Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Köprülü pointed out the basic principles regarding the master’s programme to be initiated on political sciences and expressed that they wanted to take the status of political sciences, both within the Near East University and in the country in general, a step forward. Furthermore, she said that by opening the master’s programme, they were determined to trigger scientific, theoretical and multi-dimensional research to be conducted in this field.

In addition to the above, it was stated that the curriculum of the master’s programme on political sciences was formed by including the mainstream and critical basic theoretical debates in the field of political sciences. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Köprülü emphasised that they had a variety of highly competent academic staff who previously carried out studies and made publishes involving the concepts of political theories, comparative political, communal movements, Cyprus, Europe and the middle east, democracy and democratization theories, political negotiation, nationalism and ethnic conflicts.
