Near East University Hospital has been successfully represented by the Department of Cardiology at the International Congress on Update of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery; a congress annually held to provide an opportunity to discuss and share innovations and developments in the field.

It was stated that this year, the 14th International Update in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery (UCCVS) was held on 5-8 April, 2018 in Antalya Turkey and surgeons from 32 different countries attended the congress. Furthermore, the UCCVS was enriched by the Valve Summit, International Forum of Arrhythmias, Interventional Cardiology Mediterranean Meeting, Pulmonary Hyoertension Summit, Heart Failure Summit, Hypertension Summit and Adult Congenital Heart Summit. Additionally, the American Heart Association, Heart Rhythm Society and many other international scientific bodies attended the congress.

It was expressed that the Near East University Hospital was represented by the Cardiologists of the hospital and they gave verbal and written presentations regarding the works Head of Neu Department of Cardiology Prof. Dr. Hamza Duygu was the Chair of a session of the congress and also he was a spokesperson of two other sessions. Moreover, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Levent Cerit acted as the Chair of a session of the congress and has also acted as a spokesperson in another session. Additionally, Specialist Doctor Belma Taşel’s responsibility at the congress was to make a presentation.

Held to provide an opportunity to follow up on advancements made and experiences gained within the field of cardiology, Near East University Hospital shared difficult incidents encountered and experiences gained wit the participants of the congress. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Levent Cerit and Specialist Doctor Belma Taşel, informed the participants which came from 32 different countries around the world about a patient with serious coronary artery and aortic stenosis, and a rare incident where a minimally invasive surgical procedure was applied, TAVI, which repairs the valve without removing the old, damaged valve. (Instead it wedges a replacement valve into the aortic valve’s place).
