Near East University Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering 2019-2020 Fall Semester Graduation Ceremony held

Graduates of the Near East University Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering 2019-2020 Fall semester received their diplomas with a ceremony held at the Atatürk Cultural and Congress Center Grand Hall.

According to the information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan, Dean of the Faculty Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş, department heads, lecturers, graduate students and students' families attended to the ceremony.

At the ceremony, which started with a stand of respect and reading the National Anthem, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan, top graduate of English program Tafadza Tsanyau and Turkish program top student Ersin Emre Konuk delivered speeches. After the speeches, a musical concert was presented and the graduates were presented their diplomas respectively.

Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş in his opening speech at the ceremony stating that students would receive their diplomas as civil engineers after all efforts and hard study, emphasized that their journey of education was not easy because it is not an easy task to be completed and be a graduate of the Civil Engineering Department. Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş also thanked the families and teachers who contributed greatly to the education and achievements of the students during the last training period.

Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş said, “In 2018, as Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, we received the“ Best Faculty ”award among the 21 faculties at our university. We want to repeat this success in 2019. This pride is for all of us.” Explaining that the students coming from 41 different countries studying at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Civil Engineering Department are offered the best possible education with highly experienced academic staff, including academicians who have received the Nobel Prize. Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş said that undergraduate and graduate programs are not only recognized by YÖK and YÖDAK but also accredited by ASIIN, a highly esteemed international accreditation body. He also stated that they held 3 international congresses on “Cyprus Issue” and “Water and Environment” this year. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş congratulated the graduates and wished them success in their future career.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan: “We took it as a mission to train engineers who do not transfer technology but produce technology…”
Near East University Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan, on the other hand, stated that they are happy to graduate engineers of future who can adapt to the new technologies that integrate theory and practice, and that will contribute to culture and society in different dimensions and levels. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tüzünkan addressed the students and congratulated the graduates by stating that they have reached this happy day by studying hard in a disciplined manner at the Near East University, which is a long-established and a big university that aims to train the generations that will build the society of the future. Noting that the engineering departments, which have significantly contributed to the development of science and technology, played an important role in shaping the future in our century which is dominated by highly technical societies.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tüzünkan said that they are educating students to play an important role in the development of our country as engineers who are not transferring technology but producing it. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan said, “With the awareness of the importance of training qualified engineers who have such a critical role in the future of the country, we, as Near East University, are educating our students with an educational mission that can contribute to the development of the country, who adopts the role and importance of science in human life, and who can contribute to the development of the country. As Near East University, we are working on different branches of engineering such as electric cars and cybersecurity of computer-informatics systems.”

Addressing the families in the continuation of his words, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tüzünkan stated that the families can now be proud of their children as they are now graduates of Near East University, and every new success they will make in their working life will make them happier and prouder.

Diplomas were awarded, caps were thrown up...
Later, English program top graduate Tafadza Tsanyau and Turkish program top graduate Ersin Emre Konuk made speeches. Then, the graduates were presented their diplomas, respectively. The ceremony ended with throwing up the caps by graduate students.
