Near East University Faculty of Agriculture Dean, Ecologist Prof. Dr. Özge Özden participated in the "Invertebrate Species Analysis Workshop" held in Antalya within the scope of the "Project of Preparation, Implementation and Monitoring of Action Plans for Endangered Species in Turkey" initiated with the support of the European Union.

The rapid population growth in the world, urban expansion, and the expansion of transportation networks negatively affect the living spaces of living things in nature by breaking up and shrinking them. This situation puts many living things in danger of extinction in the world and in our region. The project “Preparation, Implementation and Monitoring of the Action Plan for Endangered Species in Turkey within the Scope of a New Methodology” initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks through the financial support of the European Union is also aiming to define an new strategy suitable for today to protect endangered species. Following the series of workshops that will bring together many scientists, action plans for each endangered species will be prepared and a national species protection strategy will be determined.

Species action plans will be prepared for endangered invertebrates
“Workshop on the Analysis of Invertebrate Species”, one of the workshops held within the scope of the project, was held in Antalya between September 28 and October 1. Near East University Faculty of Agriculture Dean, Ecologist Prof. Dr. Ozge Ozden also attended the workshop. In the 'Analysis of Invertebrate Species' workshop, where more than 100 expert participants in their field attended, current situation analyzes of endangered invertebrate species were carried out. After the analyses, the process of preparing species action plans for each living thing was started.

Prof. Dr. Özge Özden: “Comprehensive strategies are needed to protect endangered species.”
At the same time, a member of the European Union Butterfly Observation Society and observing the butterfly species and populations on the island of Cyprus, Prof. Dr. Özge Özden emphasized the importance of preparing a "species action plan" to determine comprehensive strategies to be implemented in cooperation with environmental protection authorities, scientists and non-governmental organizations for the protection of endangered species. Prof. Dr. Özden contributes to the conservation of butterfly endangered species in Turkey within the scope of the “Preparation, Implementation and Monitoring of the Action Plan for Endangered Species in Turkey within the Scope of a New Methodology” project initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks through the financial support of the European Union. Prof. Dr. Özden said, “We plan to develop future-oriented collaborations in close communication with scientists working in this field in Turkey.”
