Minister of National Education Kemal Dürüst and his visiting committee visited Founding Rector of Near East University, Dr. Suat İ. Günsel and received information on developments and projects of the university. It was stressed that Vice Rectors of NEU Prof. Dr. Şenol Bektaş, Prof. Dr. Fahreddin Sadıkoğlu and Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ accompanied the visitors during their visit.

According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, it was pointed out that Ministry Undersecretary Bumin Paşa, Executive Assistant Şifa Soğukpınar, Head of Higher Education Department Ziya Öztürkler and Head of Department of Education Joint Services Mustafa Ziyaettin accompanied the Minister of Education,Kemal Dürüst during the visit to NEU.

“ We will be continuing to pioneer the field of Education and Training in the TRNC!”

Making a speech as he hosted the visitor, Founding Rector of Near East University Dr. Suat İ. Gunsel said that they, as the university, prioritised research and accreditations. Gunsel pointed out that over the past two years, they particularly focused on research and in this respect, they were spending most of their resources for the conduction of many researches and getting accreditations to the university. He expressed that the NEU library and its research centres had reached a status that they were rather proud of. He added that 170 undergraduate and 220 postgraduate programs offered by the NEU had received accreditation. He emphasised that currently, the NEU had reached a position in the Middle East as the centre of higher education.

Dr. Suat İ. Günsel assured that they, as the NEU, would be continuing to pioneer the field of education in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). He stressed that the scientific information produced at the NEU had found its place among worldly renown science, and that they were currently conducting joint research with highly esteemed and renown parties who are highly esteemed and the NEU perceived itself as one of the four significant centres of science. Furthermore, Dr. Suat İ. Günsel expressed that they were aware of the close interest of the Minister of National Education Kemal Dürüst and this acted as the driving force for the NEU to target and achieve better results in he field of higher education.

Kemal Dürüst: “Near East University holds the most significant position among the universities in the TRNC!”

Making a short speech during his visit to the NEU, Kemal Dürüst said: “In my view, the Near East University holds the most significant position among the universities in the TRNC. As you all know, higher education is a very important sector in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Currently, 84.500 students are undertaking their higher educations on the TRNC and almost 30.000 of these students are from third-world countries. Moreover, considering that in a country of 270 thousand population, the significance given to higher education in our country can be easily understood. Additionally, Near East University does add a significant momentum to this field. Since the date of foundation in 1998, it has made many achievements and has more than 30.000 students, which all together makes us highly proud! In fact, we are aware that it has received accreditation from 118different countries, and is therefore promoting and representing our country, TRNC, in the best possible way. ”

Kemal Dürüst: “We need to apprecaite the value of the universities I the TRNC…”

Minister of National Education, Kemal Dürüst pointed out his belief that the developments of the Near East University had actually made a great contribution to the development of the community. He added that there were 6 thousand TRNC citizens, 7 thousand third world country citizens and 15 thousand Turkish citizens studying at the NEU. He emphasised that we all needed to truly appreciate all the universities present in the TRNC, along with our own scientists and academicians. He ended his words by stressing that Near East University played a leading role to the universities in the country and that it had a vision which was surely to continue to progress to a brighter future.

Subsequent to the aforementioned speeches, Minister of National Education Kemal Dürüst and his visiting committee was accompanied by the Founding Rector of NEU Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, as they visited the NEU Faculty of Veterinary, NEU Animal Hospital, Classical Car Museum, the super computer at the Innovation and Research Centre, and received information from the technical members of the Robot Football Team which will soon be participating in the World Robot Football Competition.

During the visit to the Near East University Animal Hospital, Dean of Faculty of Veterinary, Prof. Dr. Ömer Memduh Esendal provided information to the Minister of National Education and gave him information on the investments made, the researches targeted and pointed out that there were no other universities which had infrastructure as the NEU. As a result, it was expressed that the Minister of National Education was highly impressed of their visit and that he had said that no matter who the ministers are, everyone needed to stake a claim of the university.
