Harvard University comes up with proposal to conduct collaborative study with Near East University

-Near East University and Harvard University will conduct collaborative scientific research in genetic field
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şehime G. TEMEL, lecturer of Department of Histology and Embryology, Faculty of Medicine of Near East University, successfully represented the Near East University with three seperate studies in American Society of Human Genetics 2015 Congress held in Baltimore. Amongst these studies, the study which was focusing on reasons of sudden deaths received a demand of collaborative research from Harvard University.

A study reaching out to life from death...
According to a press statement made by Press and Public Relations Directorate of Prof. Dr. Şehime G. Temel and collaboratively supported by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çetin Lütfi Baydar, lecturer of Department of Forensic Medicine, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Conkbayır, lecturer of Department of Cardiology, focuses on sudden deaths with undiagnosed reasons and possible methods to save the individuals from same family origin, and attracted great attention in congress held in Baltimore.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şehime G. Temel, representing the Near East University with three presentations in Baltimore, pointed out that these studies are collaborative studies with Acıbadem University and Uludağ University, some of the variants discovered in gene studies are new and unrelated to diseases previously, and studies regarding functions of these variants are already being carried out.

Collaborative Research Demand From Harvard University...
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şehime G. Temel stated that the studies they shared with the other scientists who attended to the congress attracted great attention and they received a collaborative study demand from the Deparment of Medical Genetics, Faculty of Medicine of Harvard University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Temel, stating that they came up with an agreement to conduct a collaborative study with the Department of Medical Genetics of Harvard University and turn the project, which focuses on possible reasons of sudden deaths, into a bigger one, emphasized that they are going to conduct more detailed studies within a short while. Assoc. Prof. Dr. said that they are much pleased for the proposal of Harvard University to conduct collaborative studies and they are happy to conduct the study with international institutions highly esteemed.

Assoc. Dr. Şehime G. Temel, lecturer of Department of Histology and Embryology, pointed out that the main subject of the study is the sudden undiagnosed deaths of young people which happen very often in Turkish Cypriot society, and considering the autopsy results of these persons, a study is carried out to protect the family members from possible death cases.
