Faculty of Communication of Near East University was represented successfully at the International Congress

The 3rd International Scientific Research Congress on Humanities and Social Sciences (IBAD 2018) was held on July 9-11, 2018 in Skopje-Macedonia. The Head of the Department of Radio TV and Cinema of the Faculty of Communication of Near East University, Associate Professor Fevzi Kasap along with the faculty members Cüneyt Kurtulan, Pınar Gürçınar, Ayhan Dolunay and Çağdaş Öğüç participated in the congress and represented Near East University successfully with remarkable presentations.

IBAD - 2018 Congress brought together many academics, researchers, scientists from all around the world to exchange and share their experiences, studies, new ideas, research findings and results about all aspects of topics related the congress. Congress also provided opportunities to participants to discuss the theoretical methods and practical solutions adopted about innovations and developments in the scientific environment.

According to the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Associate Professor Fevzi Kasap and the faculty members of the Faculty of Communication made three presentations on “The Directing Effect of the Social Media on Young People's Voting Decisions: TRNC Model”, “Communication Ethics and New Media Journalism: An Investigation on Presenting Judicial News on TRNC News Sites”, and “Violence Against the Handicapped and Presenting the News Concerning With the Handicapped on Internet Portals: TRNC Model”. These articles that presented at IBAD 2018 Congress will be published in “e-book of abstracts” and "proceedings e-book" which will be sent to be indexed in Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index.

Presenting Judicial News on the News Sites in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was discussed...
Radio TV and Cinema Department Chairman Associate Professor Fevzi Kasap and the faculty members Çağdaş Öğüç and Ayhan Dolunay presented an article titled Communication Ethics and New Media Journalism. The article presents a study on the presentation of the juridical news on the news sites broadcasting in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The study probes into the issue and puts forward suggestions for solution.

The study discusses the presentation of the juridical news on the news sites broadcasting in TRNC and underlines the impropriety of publicizing particularly the names-surnames and images of those who are suspected but not convicted yet.

Within the scope of the study, the juridical news reported during the period of November-December 2017 in the web portals of the local newspapers of our country have been reviewed, evaluated and concrete solution proposals to the problems identified have been presented.

The Effect of Web-portals on Young People's Voting Decisions has been discussed...
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap also presented another article with Dr. Cüneyt Kurtulan and Instructor Ayhan Dolunay. The article titled as “The Directing Effect of the Social Media on Young People's Voting Decisions: TRNC Model” presents a study on the significant attempts of social media to affect the voting decisions of the young people.

The study underlines the significant role of young people, who are the most important building blocks of the social structure, in determining the result of elections especially in societies with a young population. Within this frame, the study draws attention to the efforts exerted by social media and web portals during elections to direct the decisions of young people.

The study probes into the issue with a special focus on showing how important and preliminary the activities conducted on the internet and social media in affecting young people's voting decision. The study is also of importance in demonstrating the tendency of young people in voting. In order to obtain the most reliable and accurate data, face-to-face interviews were conducted with the sample selected randomly from voters aging 18-25 and residing in 6 provinces of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Presentation of News concerning with the disabled on web sites has been discussed...
The third article titled as “Violence against the Handicapped and Presenting the News Concerning with the Handicapped on Internet Portals: TRNC Model” was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap, Dr. Pınar Gürçınar and instructor Ayhan Dolunay. The article presents a study on types of violence imposed on the handicapped and discusses how these cases take coverage on internet portals. The study reviews the internet news concerning violence against the handicapped between September 2016 and September 2017 and provides concrete solutions for the problems identified.

Expressing their pride of representing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Near East University at international scientific platform, Associate Professor Fevzi Kasap, Dr. Cüneyt Kurtulan, Dr. Pınar Gürçınar, faculty members Ayhan Dolunay and Çağdaş Öğüç highlighted that their scholar studies would continue with the same determination.
