Ardahan University Senate Awarded Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, Founding Rector of Near East University with Honorary Doctorate.

The award ceremony held in Hoca Ahmet Yesevi Conference Hall of Ardahan University and Municipality Chairman Faruk Köksoy, Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat. İ. Günsel, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Korkmaz, Rector of Ardahan University, Prof. Dr. Fahreddin Sadıkoğlu, Vice Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Sami Özcan, Rector of Kafkas University, lecturers and students.

According to a press statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Şeref Kılıç, Dean of Faculty of Engineering of Ardahan University, delivered a speech at the ceremony and said "Ardahan University Senate decided to award Dr. Suat İ. Günsel with an honorary doctorate for his extraordinary efforts in making the TRNC a highly regarded brand in the world's higher education sector, overcoming the embargos through education and for his personal dedications which resulted with great achievements".

Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel in his speech delivered at the ceremony said "This is such a great honor that to accept and sustain such an honor is really difficult. Let me say that it is even harder to establish a university. I hereby do accept it as a unity of our Cyprus and Turkey".

"You do write the history of your country, do not let others do it for you..."
Dr. Günsel in his speech also said "Our gifted youth, I would like to tell you sincerely that you are the ones to write the history of your country. Do not let others do it on your behalf. When Cyprus encounters storms, though it has long been considered as a ship, can only survive with support of Turkey, can only resist against the storms if it is in unity with Turkey. I realized that one of the ways of unity is establishing a university in the island and so did I started the venture of education. I have never ever praised myself with what I have so far done, but with what I haven't done. The sole aim of all my efforts was the unity of Cyprus and Turkey. My heart says I want to take deep roots in my country, my heart says I want to be in unity with my Turkey. And I do boast not with what I have done, but what I haven't done. I do sincerely wish to say to you, you precious students. You do write the history of your country, never let others do it for you. Never let your dreams to be like the capacity of a laptop, but have dreams that can be achieved by Super Computers. And, like I did, praise yourselves with not what you have done, but what you have not done".

Following his speech, Dr. Suat İ. Günsel gowned and presented with the "honorary doctorate" award by Prof. Dr. Ramazan Korkmaz, Rector of Ardahan University.

Following the honorary doctorate award ceremony, the "Group Art Exhibition and Spring Concert" programs have been realized.
