About 100 Orthopedic and Traumatology specialists from all over Europe sat the Proficiency Examination organized by the Board of European Orthopedics and Traumatology (EBOT). Dr. Barış Polat, Orthopedics and Traumatology specialist at Near East University Hospital, has passed the exam and become one of the eight Turkish orthopedic and traumatology specialists who have won EBOT Exam 2017.

What is European Board of Orthopedics and Traumatology (EBOT) Exam?

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, EBOT exam is one of the world's most prestigious qualifications which helps ever greater number of EBOT fellows to progress in their careers. EBOT Exam is held annually at different centers all across Europe. Citizens of the European Union (EU),) as well as associate members of Union of European Medical Specialists (UEMS) are required to have a certificate of full qualification as an orthopedic and traumatology specialist to sit for EBOT Exam.

EBOT Exam consists of two sections: Section 1 (Written Examination), which is completed online and consisted of 100 multiple choice questions, is held in the different examination centers in Europe. This part of the exam is carefully prepared to cover all contents of orthopedic and traumatology. A process of standard setting is performed by experienced specialists and this sets the pass mark for the paper. Applicants need to pass Section 1 to proceed to Section 2.

Section 2 (Oral examination) consists of five sessions of 30 minutes each. Each oral session will be based on Adult orthopedic and trauma surgery – upper limb, Adult orthopedic and trauma surgery – lower limb, Adult orthopedic and trauma surgery – spine, Children's orthopedic and trauma surgery, and Basic sciences related to orthopedics, including biomechanics, statistics, audit methodology and outcome-based medicine.

The passing rate of the participants has ranged from 30% to 40 %
