As part of the “The Red Crescent on Campus” project, 161 units of blood donations were collected on Near East University Campus

The Red Crescent Club of Near East University jointly organised “The Red Crescent on Campus” with the North Cyprus Red Crescent Society of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and collected 161 units of blood.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, a blood donation bus was positioned in front of the İrfan Günsel Congress Centre of Faculty of Health Sciences of Near East University for two days and 161 units of blood was collected from volunteers.

It was pointed out that the event was held in order to meet the blood needs of Thalassemia and oncology patients and that university students and university personnel showed a great interest to such a meaningful event.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaya Süer: "Through similar events, we aim to provide the blood needs of Oncology and Thalassemia patients…"
Academic Member of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaya Süer, stated that last year, the blood donation programme was initiated through cooperation with the North Cyprus Red Crescent Society of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Turkish Red Crescent. Furthermore, he asserted that they were continuing the same donation programme this year and this was the reason why a blood donation bus was placed on Near East University Campus for 2 days.

He stated that the aim was to educate and raise awareness of the students pursuing their higher education in Cyprus on the significance of making voluntary and regular blood donations. Moreover, he stated that through joint work with,North Cyprus Red Crescent Society, they were aiming to expand the project to collecting blood donations at all the universities in northern Cyprus. In this regard, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaya Süer stated that subsequent to the event held on Near East University campus, the donations were to continue on other universities’ campuses.

As Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaya Süer ended his words on the matter, he expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organising the meaningful event; with especial thanks to the authorities of Cyprus Red Crescent Society of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Red Crescent of Turkey; to Near East University Rectorship, to Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr.Tamer Şanlıdağ; to Students’ Deanery Office; and to everyone who supported the project by making voluntary blood donations.
