Achievement of Near East University Faculty of Medicine at the International ESPE 2015 Meeting

At the training meeting that attended by 26 selected participants from all around the world, the project presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Neşe Akcan, faculty member of NEU Faculty of Medicine, ranked among the top five.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Neşe Akcan, lecturer at the Paediatrics Department of NEU Faculty of Medicine, represented the Near East University successfully at the 54th Annual Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE 2015) that held in Barcelona.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Neşe Akcan provided information on the issue. "Since being founded in 1962, when the first annual scientific meeting was held in Zurich, the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) has grown increasingly in both size and scope, and become the leading international scientific community of paediatric endocrinology that currently has over one thousand members from over 85 countries who are interested in a wide range of hormone related issues in young people. The basic aim of the Society is to promote and foster consensus development with the aim of improving care of babies, children and adolescents with growth, puberty, developmental problems and other hormonal problems like diabetes, thyroid and adrenal gland disorders. The Society also actively provides research and training opportunities to the physicians dealing with these issues” said she.

The theme of the ESPE 2015 Meeting was “Improving patient care: A pluridisciplinary dialogue”. The meeting provided platform for more than 4,000 participants around the globe to exchange ideas as well as to update and debate theoretical and practical issues and communicate their presentations. Asst. Prof. Dr. Neşe Akcan made a successful presentation of her research study that she and faculty members of Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine conducted jointly in collaboration.

Usually preceding the Annual Meeting, the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology organizes training courses with the aim of covering all main topics in paediatric endocrinology. This year, ESPE Winter School took place in Ohrid, Macedonia and attended by 26 participants selected by the ESPE Winter School Steering Committee. The course included interactive lectures by experienced ESPE members as well as clinical research presentations, projects in small groups, and presentation of selected work to the plenum. Asst. Prof. Dr. Neşe Akcan's project ranked the top five among 26 presentations.

Touching upon the significance of taking place at international platforms, Asst. Prof. Dr. Neşe Akcan voiced her feelings. Furthermore, I am highly honored and proud of representing our country and our university at such an outstanding international organization”.
