It was stated that the Academic Members of the Department of General Public Law of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Rona Aybay and Assist. Prof. Dr. Aydın Atılgan, organised a workshop titled as “The Future of General Public Law in Turkey” in University of Galatasaray, Turkey.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public of Near East University, the workshop was realised Erdoğan Teziç Hall of University of Galatasaray and academic members and research assistants from a total of 23 different faculties of law attended the opening ceremony of the workshop. Furthermore, it was stated that both Prof. Dr. Rona Aybay and Assist. Prof. Dr. Aydın Atılgan made a speech at the ceremony.

In addition to the above, it was pointed out that the Dean of Faculty of Law of University of Galatasaray, Prof. Dr. Necmi Yüzbaşıoğlu had also made a speech at the workshop where he thanked Prof. Dr. Rona Aybay for organising the event. Prof. Dr. Necmi Yüzbaşıoğlu further stated that this event was a ‘beginning’ and emphasised that they were cooperating to carry the event to a more comprehensive and international platform. Subsequent to Prof. Dr. Necmi Yüzbaşıoğlu’s speech, Assist. Prof. Dr. Aydın Atılgan made a speech and asserted that works were being carried out in Germany so as to update and rejuvenate the field of General Public Law. Next year, they were planning to organise this event with the contributions of Prof. Dr. Thomas Vesting from Frankfurt University.

Subsequent to the opening speeches, Academic Member of Near East University Faculty of Law, Fazıl Sağlam acted as the Session Moderator in which Academic Member of University of Galatasaray Assist. Prof. Dr. Birden Güngören Bulgan made a presentation titled as “General Public law Courses in German Universities”; whereas Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Algan from Ankara University made a presentation on “Approach to Human Rights Education within the framework of the General Public Law Course”; and finally Assist. Prof. Dr. Nergiz Karadağ from Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University made a presentation titled as “The necessity of General Public Law Course and inclusion in the Constitutional Law”.

In the next session, Dean of Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Uler was the session moderator. In this session, Academic Members of Near East University Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Yasemin Özdek and Assist. Prof. Dr. Aydın Atılgan made presentations. The presentation made by Prof. Dr. Yasemin Özdek was titled as “Historical Developments and Current Status of General Public Law”; whereas the presentation made by Assist. Prof. Dr. Aydın Atılgan was titled as “Students’ Perceptions of General Public Law”. Later, Prof. Dr. Oktay Uygun Moderated a Discussion Session where participants discussed issues related to the function of General Public Law in Legal Education”. Here it was stated that this course was required to be put into a more efficient format. Finally, it was stated that Prof. Dr. Rona Aybay and Assist. Prof. Dr. Aydın Atılgan jointly moderated the closing session where the need for further cooperation in the field was general public law was addressed and workshops which currently took place was stressed as a source of motivation; which could all be a starting point for future scientific cooperation in the field.
