Invited as a guest, Head of Institute of Social Sciences and Innovation and Information Technologies Centre of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sağsan, has given a seminar at European University of Lefke (EUL) titled as “Clues from Academic Publications: Irresistible lightness of making social science”.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University Prof. Dr. Sağsan gave a seminar aimed at academicians and doctorate students informing them of clues and editorial processes of academic publications.

During the seminar Prof. Dr. Sağsan expressed that it was necessary to base one’s study on a very strong theory and a suitable method before making any academic article publication and added that there were three basic principles to making science; first of which was to know the literature very well before writing an article. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Sağsan stressed that a scientific study not only needed to address a gap in the literature but also needed to be based on rich empirical data. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Sağsan pointed out that even when carrying out a local scientific research, it needed to be based on universal values as this was a requirement of editors which decide on publications.

Further adding to what is said above; Prof. Dr. Sağsan added that second most significant principle to making proper science was to know methodology well; pointing out that merely focusing on qualitative and quantitative methods was not sufficient as there could be circumstances where a mixed-methods approach was required.

Last but not least, Prof. Dr. Sağsan stated that the third required principle for science was the need for the researcher to know himself/herself well; knowing about one’s capacity, knowledge and skills, alongside knowing one’s own beliefs and values were rather significant as these had a great impact on the research being carried out.

It was pointed out that when the Head of Institute of Social Sciences and Innovation and Information Technologies Centre of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sağsan completed his seminar at the European University of Lefke, he was presented at certificate of appreciation Head of Department of Business Administration Prof. Dr. Harun Şeşen.
