The Internet of Things (IoT) is an environment in which objects, animals or people are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. IoT has evolved from the convergence of wireless technologies, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and the Internet. The concept may also be referred to as the Internet of Everything.

Making a statement to the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Doğan expressed that by 2020, the number of devices connected to the internet is expected to exceed 50 billion and due to this connectedness, our lives are expected to change considerably. For instance, let’s imagine that you have a meeting with a client at 9:00 and that you were planning to get to the meeting location by train. Furthermore, let’s suppose that the meeting was delayed for 30 minutes. Then connected to the internet (IoT) your alarm clock by your bedside automatically knows that your meeting has been delayed and wakes you up at a later time. Even more, your alarm clock can detect the most suitable train schedule, telling the optimal time to leave your house to catch that train. As can be understood from the above example, most probably intelligent systems will be widely used in our lives. Another example could be regarding your fridge, where sensors will detect the number of eggs that is left in the fridge, thus adding eggs to your shopping list once the number of eggs left in the fridge reaches the minimum number set previously.

Prof. Dr. Doğan İbrahim expressed that his book based on IoT has been published in Holland by Elector Publishing. He added that the book was 258 pages and that the chapters were: Introduction to IoT; IoT architecture, sensors and processors; IoT kits, micro-connectors,clicker 2 micro-controller system developing kit; Bluetooth and WiFi using projects; and cloud supported automation systems.

Prof. Dr. Doğan İbrahim’s book is expected to be highly essential and a requisite for students and researchers who are interested in electronics, computers and IoT in general.
