A Brain and Neurosurgery Workshop was held at NEU Hospital

As part of the Continuous Medical Education Events, a ‘Brain and Neurosurgery Workshop’ was held at Near East University Hospital.

According to the press info release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, four brain surgery professors had attended the workshop from Turkey and they made presentation in the form of “brain storming” to students and academic members of the NEU.

It was revealed that the opening speech of the workshop was made by the Dean of Faculty of Medicine of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan Kuzey, which was followed by the speech of NEU Head of Department of Neurosurgery, Assoc. Dr Ferhat Harman, which involved the history and development of Neurosurgery in Northern Cyprus.


Subsequent to the above, Academic Member of Department of Brain and Neurosurgery of Eskişehir Osmangazi University; Prof. Dr. Ali Arslantaş, made a presentation titled as “Who are these people? Brain Surgeons”. Furthermore, Arslantaş also gave another presentation titled as “Tumours and Genetics in Neurosurgery”.

Editor of SCI indexed journal- World Neurosurgery- which has a high impact factor, and Neurosurgeon; Prof. Dr. Sait Naderi made a presentation titled as “why do scientific publications return back?” which was found highly useful for both the academic staff and the students.

Having worked as a consultant at the Istanbul Forensics for a long time, and currently acting as an expert in many judicial cases, Academic Member of the Department of Brain and Neurosurgery of Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine of Istanbul University, Prof. Dr. Murat Hancı made a presentation in his field of specialization; titled as “Legal Liabilities of Doctors”.

In addition to the above, Department of Neurosurgery of Marmara University Faculty of Medicine and Head of Institute of Neurological Sciences Prof. Dr. Erkan Kaptanoğlu, gave a presentation titled as “Neurotrauma and degeneration”. It was emphasised that this presentation was regarded highly beneficial for both the academic staff and students of NEU, gaining knowledge on recent developments. It was expressed that the workshop had ended subsequent to the closing speech of Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan Kuzey, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, thanking and honouring all the lives lost during the 21st December 1963.
