Following the symposium that will bring together female participants from politics, judiciary and many professional groups, the “International Women’s Day Exhibition” organized by the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts will be opened by the President of the Supreme Court, Narin Ferdi Şefik, at 17.00 at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center Exhibition hall.

March 8 International Women’s Day, which symbolizes the struggle for gender equality carried out by women throughout history in social, economic and political fields, will be celebrated with events to be held at Near East University. The “Women’s Studies and Multidisciplinary Approaches” symposium, organized by the Near East University Gender Research and Application Center (TOCAM) and which will last all day, will host many female participants from politics, judiciary and many professional groups. Following the symposium, the International Women’s Day Exhibition organized by the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts will be opened.

Many issues focusing on women will be discussed
As part of the March 8 International Women’s Day events, the “Women’s Studies and Multidisciplinary Approaches” symposium organized by the Near East University Gender Research and Application Center (TOCAM) will start at 9.30 at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center. The opening speeches of the symposium will be made by Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Meltem Nalça Andrieu, Former Supreme Court Judge and Former Ombudsman Emine Dizdarlı, Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Deputy Dr. Sıla Usar İncirli, National Unity Party (UBP) Deputy İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra and Near East University Gender Research and Application Center President Assoc. Prof. Dr. İzlem Kanlı. Following the opening speeches, the themes of “Women in Health and Sports”, “Women in Law, Communication and Society” and “Women in Arts” will be discussed in the full-day symposium. In the forum section to be held in the fourth and last session of the symposium, women’s experiences from real life will be discussed.

This month’s Fine Arts exhibition will be opened in honor of International Women’s Day!
Following the “Women’s Studies and Multidisciplinary Approaches” symposium, the International Women’s Day Exhibition organized by the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts in honor of International Women’s Day will be opened.

The opening of the exhibition, which will be held at 17.00 at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center Exhibition Hall, will be held by the President of the Supreme Court, Narin Ferdi Şefik. The exhibition will consist of the artworks of the artists of the Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design and the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts; 50 works consisting of paintings, sculptures, ceramics, printmaking and stained glass will be presented to art lovers.

Near East University Gender Research and Application Center (TOCAM), which is preparing to host an important symposium on March 8, International Women’s Day, was established in January 2023 with the decision taken by the Near East University Board of Trustees. TOCAM aims to touch women’s lives with the scientific research it will conduct and the events it will organize. TOCAM, chaired by Near East University Faculty of Communication Film Production and Publishing Department Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. İzlem Kanlı, carries out training and practical studies to prevent issues such as gender equality, women’s rights, discrimination, harassment, sexual assault and violence. TOCAM, which works with an approach that focuses on gender equality in many fields such as health and psychology, law and communication, art and education, will also make a significant contribution to the scientific literature with the scientific research it will produce on the subjects it deals with.

TOCAM, which will also carry out awareness raising activities in the field of gender equality through public events, organized its first event together with Iskele Municipality and the Near East University Dean of Students in recent weeks. TOCAM, which met with the public in 8 villages of Iskele Municipality, held its last event in the region in the center of Iskele, and provided information about sexuality and sexual health at these meetings, which attracted great interest from men and women of all age groups. TOCAM, which has 29 female members from different faculties of Near East University, will continue its activities in the coming days.
