The Second International Conference on Water Problems in the Mediterranean Countries hosted by the Near East University, begins on Monday. The conference of which the honorary president is Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East University, and the president is Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Near East University is starting on Monday, 6 May, at 10:00 at the Hall 2 of the İrfan Günsel Congress Centre.

According to the press information given by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, among the conference participants is 2007 Nobel Prize winner Dr Azhari Fatahalla Ahmed.

The opening speeches will be made by Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş, the President of the Conference; Prof. Dr. James La Moreaux, President of the Scientific Committee of the Conference; President of KTMMOB Chamber of Civil Engineers Gürkan Yağcıoğlu, Vice Rector of Near East University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt and Gönyeli Mayor Ahmet Benli.

The opening program will be completed after the presentations of the two invited Speakers. One of the invited speakers is the Nobel Prize winner.

The first of the opening speech will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Azhari Fatahalla Ahmed on Global Climatic Changes, who received the Nobel Prize in 2007, and the second one will be delivered by Evren Yıldız on TRNC Water Supply Project, who is the Director of the State Water Management Directorate.

Papers presented at the conference will be published by World Famous Journal Springer in a Special Issue...
Conference Chair Prof.Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş, in the statement about the conference said that the conference will be held in two halls during three days at the same time and there will also be poster presentations as well as the verbal presentations. The papers presented at the conference will be published in a special issue by the world-famous journal Springer. The other journal where the articles will be published is Desalination an Water Treatment which is held in high esteems internationally.

During the conference; Prof. Dr. Derin Orhon, Prof. Dr. Vahid Nourani, Prof. Dr. Mikthad Kadıoğlu and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Karagündüz will present their papers as the invited speakers.
