1st International Conference on Gynecology and Obstetrics that organized in cooperation of NEU and Yale University has been realized

Two-day lasting conference that organized jointly by the Near East University and Yale University, was realized at the Near East University Hospital with the participation of the faculty members from gynecology and obstetrics departments of both universities.

1st International Conference on Gynecology and Obstetrics provided platform for academics, scientists and specialists from both universities to present their studies, discuss all aspects regarding the issue and exchange ideas. On the first day of the conference participants from Yale University consisting of Dr. Gülden Menderes, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dan-Arin Silasi, Prof. Dr. Pei Hui, lecturer at the Department of Pathology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Michelle Silasi, lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, made presentations. Asst. Prof. Dr. Bariş Kaya also represented the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Near East University Hospital with a presentation.

Many issues regarding Gynecology and Obstetrics, especially Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery were addressed

In their presentations, faculty members of Yale University addressed on a variety of issues including: laparoscopic and robotic treatment methods for uterine cancer, cervical cancer and ovarian cancers, the advantages of laparoscopic and robotic treatment methods over open surgeries, the advantages of laparoscopic and robotic surgery procedures for patients and surgeons, removing pelvic and para-aortic lymph nodes by using robotic and laparoscopic methods in staging uterine cancer, Sentinel lymph node mapping, which has gained importance in recent years, and its role in uterine cancer and the comparison of methylene blue and indocyanine dyes used in this method, latest methods applied in gynecological pathology, the genetic labeling indicating that pathological samples belong to the patient. Barış Kaya ,MD, Assist. Professor at the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Near East University Hospital, made a presentation on methods used for the control and reduction of postpartum hemorrhage and delivered information on Bakri Balloon application.

On the second day of the conference, videos concerned with laparoscopic and robotic surgeries in gynecological cancers were shown and technicalnissues were discussed along with the management of the complications that might occur during these surgeries.


The goal is to ensure the sustainability of international activities

Asst. Prof. Dr. Bariş Kaya, MD at the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Near East University Hospital, who participated in the 1st International Conference on Gynecology and Obstetrics with a presentation, stated that the idea for a conference flourished at an educational event in America where he met Dr. Gülderen Menderes, a Turkish Cypriot lecturer at Yale University. Touching upon the importance of ensuring the continuity of such collaborations, Asst. Prof. Dr. Bariş Kaya underlined their determination in ensuring the sustainability of international events. Drawing attention to the great interest of the Faculty of Medicine students in the conference, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kaya stated that the students directed many questions to the faculty members of Yale University about the education in the USA. He also added that the faculty members of Yale University found the Near East University Campus and the Near East University Hospital very impressive and admirable.
