100x2 Themed Photography Exhibition consisting of 200 photographs in different categories taken by Mehmet Gökyiğit, the photographer and the chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Photography Association (FODER), was opened by President Mustafa Akıncı.

According to a press statement released by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, President Mustafa Akıncı, President of the Board of Trustees of the Near East University Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Rector Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan, vice rectors, deans, lecturers and guests attended to the opening ceremony of the exhibition in the Exhibition Hall of the Irfan Günsel Congress Center in Faculty of Health Sciences.

Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan and President Mustafa Akıncı made speeches at the opening ceremony of Mehmet Gökyiğit's exhibition where he exhibited his photos received 75 awards in national and international photography competitions, as well as 65 colored and 60 black-and-white photographs.

Professor Dr. Ümit Hassan: "Added a New Ring to the Chain of Humanities and Arts..."
At the opening speech of the exhibition Rector Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan stated that they had a new mark in the history of art, a panorama of Mehmet Gökyiğit's life and the artist's special view and the artistic reproduction of human, geography, singular and plural objects.

Prof. Dr. Hassan stated that the 200 artworks of Mehmet Gokyigit, who reinforced his mastery on photography in Turkey and abroad, will be seen in the exhibition. Prof. Dr. Hassan also stated that the ones who witnessed the former accumulation of successive exhibitions previously held by Gökyiğit will see these works from a new and refreshing perspective. Prof. Dr. Hassan also mentioning that Mehmet Gökyiğit was a lso a member of the jury of high-level and patronage exhibitions, pointed out the awards he has won so far. Prof. Dr. Hassan also stated that the artist has a superior technique in the subject, frame and light, and always opened doors to the new dimensions, and curiosity to the inner mathematics and geometry is seen in the art of the artist.

He stated that what was seen 5300 years ago was no longer the same. Dr. Hassan, said "The developments in the civilian society and the increase in techniques of photography and camera has led to a change in consciousness. What we see is not only a matter of restraint, it is an indispensable element of the reproduction of the artist through the eyes of the artist.

President Akıncı: "The Culture and Culture of Art Activities at the Near East University, A Window to the World Under the Embargo..."
President Mustafa Akıncı stated that one of the most important cultural events he attended recently was taking part in the Presidential Symphony Orchestra concerts and photo exhibitions. He also said that the interest in the art of photography in our country has continued since the child ages.

President Akıncı: "We just forgot about the number of exhibitions on this University campus. A beautiful tradition is getting its roots at the Near East University. These activities are the windows of a society living under embargoes opening to the world. Developments in the field of culture and art, informatics and communication are valuable areas where we can transcend these walls and go beyond political limitations. It is necessary to celebrate the people who open their spaces and hearts to these areas. Both institutional and individual works should be supported.

Speaking about the solution of the Cyprus problem, President Akıncı said that Southern Cyprus has not put forth any demands, and therefore the negotiations have paused, despite this fact, the struggle for better in all areas should be continued, and that the cultural and artistic activities are a very important part of this struggle.…

Ibn Heysem Award Presented...
After the speeches, President Mutafa Akıncı and President of the Board of Trustees Assoc. Dr. Irfan Suat Günsel presented the Ibn Heisem Award to photography artist Mehmet Gökyiğite, an award given in photography within the scope of the Alasia Awards. After the award ceremony, the sculptor Nurlan Kebek Uulu opened a sculpture of Mehmet Gökyiğit to be exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Cyprus.

Mehmet Gökyiğit: "I'm glad to open my 3rd solo photography exhibition..."
Mehmet Gökyiğit, who conveyed his feelings after the award presentation, stated that he had the opportunity to present his 200 photos to the art-lovers with the contributions of Near East University and he was grateful for this.

Gökyiğit: I am glad because the opening of my exhibition is made by the President who always supports us, the artist, and honors us. I'm glad that the Günsel Family has supported my exhibition from the very beginning. I was awarded the award of Ibn Heysem, who contributed to the discovery of the dark room and the camera, and was the founder of the optical science. Leading names in the field of photography of our country, the chairmen of the associations, art lovers, photo enthusiasts were present at the exhibition opening. Becoming a member of photography art since 2005, as one of the people involved in photography, my responsibilities have increased I will continue to be with you in different times and with different themed exhibitions."

Exhibition Ribbon was cut and exhibition was visited...
After the speeches and awards, the opening ribbon of the 100x2 Themed Photography Exhibition was cut. The exhibition, which consists of 200 works of Photographer Mehmet Gokyigit, will be open to visitors at Irfan Gunsel Congress Center Exhibition Hall between 08.00-16.00 until 15 June 2019.
