Young pharmacists of Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy took their first steps into their profession by taking the “Pharmacy Oath”

120 young pharmacists, who graduated from Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy in the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, took their first steps into their profession by taking the “Pharmacy Oath”.

The ceremony, which started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, was held with intense participation. Families showed great interest in the ceremony, which was held with the participation of many faculty members. At the graduation ceremony, the quality education given by the Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy was emphasized as well as the outstanding achievements of the students.

The opening speech of the ceremony was made by Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. İhsan Çalış. After the opening speech, students graduating from the Turkish program led by Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy, Director of the Forensic Sciences Institute and Head of Toxicology Department, Prof. Dr. Şahan Saygı read the Pharmacy Oath. Then, the students graduating from the English program and led by Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy, Head of Pharmacognosy Department and Director of the Graduate Education Institute, Prof. Dr. Kemal Hüsnü Can Başer read the same oath in English.

The students took the oath and stepped into their professional lives under the proud gaze of their teachers and families.


Prof. Dr. İhsan Çalış: “Pharmacist is a teacher, and also a lifelong learner.”

In his speech, Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. İhsan Çalış emphasized the importance of the education received by pharmacist candidates and stated that they should be aware of their professional responsibilities.

Stating that the pharmacy profession is a multifaceted profession, Prof. Dr. Çalış said, “You have gone through a unique training that includes different disciplines. We planned our training program with the aim of raising you as pharmacists who are professionally responsible towards society, who can use the information they have acquired from different rhythms, who can interpret this information, who can identify problems, who have developed analysis skills, and who comply with moral and ethical values.”

Prof. Dr. Çalış, “Pharmacist is the only qualified pharmaceutical advisor who can help patients, doctors and the public. Pharmacy is a blend of science, healthcare, direct patient contact, technology, ethics and business. A pharmacist is a highly qualified and trusted pharmaceutical expert. Pharmacist is a teacher, and also a lifelong learner.”

Addressing the graduates, Prof. Dr. Çalış reminded that they are at the beginning of their professional lives and said “You now have a sacred profession that has a direct relationship with human life and health. That’s why you have to constantly improve yourself. Your oath text is a perfect road map prepared for you.”
